Were seated at what seems to be a VIP area. Lucas mentioned that they built this arena specifically for this purpose. The moment Minju's kingdom went to them to recruit royal guards, they started to build.
Chaeryeong hasn't stopped glaring at me since earlier. I know she's not happy that I agreed to let Ryuji fight in her condition but they also made a point. They could easily kill her but at least now she has a chance. A slim chance but better than nothing.
"You'll like this. It's fun to watch" Minju seems reslly excited. I look down at the participants and I frown. Did she forget I don't like violence?
"If anything happens to Ryujin, I don't know if our relationship will ever be the same" Chaeryeong whispers to me.
Hearing those words actually made me sad. Her and I have been friends longer but it seems like she's supporting Ryujin.
"Is there no other way?" I ask Minju. I really don't know how any of this work. I was never one to be involved in any royal affairs or anything that deals with other kingdoms.
"Sadly, no. Her only way out is if she wins" Minju says but she doesn't seem bothered at all. I just think it's because she doesn't know Ryujin.
I sigh and the event starts. The participants are paired up. One by one, each pair would duel one another. I didn't really watch because it's too brutal for me. Thankfully, even though Chaeryeong is mad at me, she still let me cover my eyes with her body.
"Yeji, you know I can help you. You put your head on my shoulder or something" Minju says to me.
"I'm sorry, I'm just more comfortable with Chaeryeong" I say.
I hear her scoff but I don't care right now.
It felt like every fight fight lasted for eternity. I hear all the screams and loud crashing. Chaeryeong holds me tighter because she knows I can't handle. How can anyone find this fun?
Finally, they call out Ryujin's name. I finally look down where the fight is being held. The two guards that took Ryujin away earlier enters the field while dragging her. She can barely stand on her own. They did put protective gear on her but I don't know how well that's gonna work.
They drop her on the ground then they call her opponent. Everyone starts to cheer as a big scary man enters. He doesn't even have any gear on him so he must be a good fighter.
My palm starts sweating for some reason. I start shaking my legs up and down while I fidget with my hands. I suddenly don't feel good after seeing that man. Is this a reaction when you find someone scary? Why would I be scared though? It's not like he can hurt me.
I can see Chaeryeong is really tense right now.
Ryujin slowly stands up but she can't stand straight or even look at her opponent. The bell rings signaling for the fight to start.
The man laughs while watching Ryujin struggle to take a step forward. He stands in his spot waiting for Ryujin to get to him.
"Prince Lucas, please stop this. Ryujin can barely stand" Chaeryeong begs again but Lucas ignores her.
The big scary man finally makes his move. He stops right in front of Ryujin. She looks up and attempts to throw a punch. She falls to the ground once her fist hit his chest.
The man squats down and it looks like he whispered something. He abruptly stands back up then kicks Ryujin in the stomach, causing her to slide back about three feet from where she was.
I didn't realize I was biting the inside of my cheeks until I taste blood. Chaeryeong is almost in tears watching her friend in so much pain.
My heart aches for unknown reasons. I do feel guilty for agreeing with this. I didn't think it would be this bad. I guess knowing Ryujin can fight made me believe that she can win this even though she's injured.
