"Yeji, wake up" I feel Lia shake me.
"But I'm sleeping" I groan.
"I know that's why I'm waking you up. How can I try to wake you up if you're awake" she says with sass.
"It's too early for your attitude right now" I sit up while stretching my arms.
"It's too early for you, in general" she laughs.
"Why are you waking me up? Do I have plans today?" I ask.
"The king is leaving the palace today and he wants to know if you want to go" Lia states.
"But I'm not allowed to leave the palace" I say.
"That's why we're keeping it in the hush hush. Even the Queen is not notified with this information."
"I wonder why he's letting me come" I think out loud.
"You can keep wondering all you want but the King will be waiting for you in his office in ten minutes so either get ready or keep wondering. It makes no difference to me" Lia straightens herself up.
I jump out of bed and go to my bathroom to wash up. I need to look at least presentable. People might not know I'm the Princess but I still have to make sure I'm presentable.
After washing up, I wear something comfortable. I'm supposed to be wearing formal attires at all times but I prefer comfortable. Luckily, my parents are okay with it so everyone in the palace is used to me wearing comfortable clothes. I still have to wear formal attire when meeting when meeting with other leaders.
I finish getting dressed so I go to my dad's office. I'm a few minutes early but I'm sure he won't care. I knock on the door and instruct me to go in.
"Dad!" I happily greet him.
"Princess, did Lia inform you?" He ask.
"Yes. Can I ask why? It just seems so sudden and you never really let me break those type of rules" I ask.
"I honestly expected you to rebel a little" he chuckles, "Before I became the king, I actually snuck out a lot because I wanted to see what the kingdom was like, I mean how it really is without some sort of event happening. Whenever we decide to visit a town, they always try to impress us. They show only the positives of what's going on" he pauses.
I sit down because I feel like it might be a long story of his past.
"I remember my parents would only tell me the positive attributes of each town and I found that hard to believe so I snuck out. Check out the kingdom without royalty around. Are they as great as what they say they are. My dad trusted his men to take care of the town they're in charge of and make sure the people are happy but that wasn't the case."
"When I was out, all I saw was people stealing, people fighting, people starving and it turns out the men that was in charge didn't take care of the people. They used their superiority and mistreated everyone. Threatened them if anyone tried to report it to the palace. That's why I always make sure the men I choose for each town are good people" he continues to talk.
"That explains why you're a good king but it doesn't explain why you're letting me go with you" I say.
"I've been the king of this kingdom for so many years and I'm sure there are things that i might not see. So I want you to go out there explore this kingdom and see what else can we do to improve" he tells me.
"Alone?" I nervously ask. I want to go out but I don't want to be alone. Something might happen to me.
"Not alone. Chaeryeong will keep an eye on you but from a distance. They don't know what you look like. Don't tell anyone your name, okay? Do you think you're up for it? You don't have to if you don't want to" he gives me a warm smile.
