There were a lot of ways Bexon was rudely woken up over the years, one of the worst being when he was still high as balls from the night before and thought that his sister's boyfriend was the police there to arrest him for something he didn't remember.
However, his sister poking his face was definitely on the list now.
"Grace, I gave you a key for emergencies, not for a wake-up call," Bexon groaned. He was very much not a morning person, there was nothing relaxing about having to get up from whatever weird position he ended up falling asleep in only to be greeted with the sun itself shining in through the windows and straight into his eyes.
Grace sighed and while Bexon was still hoping to go back to sleep, his sister opened the curtains completely, making Bexon pull up the blanket as any gremlin would do.
"Max let me in any way, so I didn't even use the key," Grace stated. She sat on the edge of the bed and waited. "Get up, I have news and I want pancakes."
Bexon rolled his eyes. He didn't know what kind of news would justify him being awoken before noon but he got up anyway. It was a slow process but eventually, he got up and pulled on a black hoodie making sure to prove how tired he was by putting up the hood.
"Yay," Grace cheered and finally got up.
Bexon walked to the bathroom first and brushed his teeth before walking out to the kitchen only to hear light conversation. He inwardly groaned.
"What kind?" Bexon asked vaguely.
Grace had somehow gotten what he meant as she took a seat at the counter, however, before she answered Max was cutting in.
"I like blueberries," Max commented. He was sitting on the couch reading, even though it looked more like he was trying to read and play a game on his phone at the same time.
"Yeah, blueberry pancakes," Grace agreed.
There was something about the interaction that told Bexon if the two ever teamed up he would never have a moment of peace ever again. It might have been a bit dramatic, it was only pancakes after all, but that of course was how things started.
"Ew, no I'll make blueberry waffles, but not pancakes," Bexon explained as he got the ingredients.
He never quite understood why people liked pancakes over something like waffles. They were just a rip-off of waffles after all. Pancakes couldn't hold the toppings, no they just ran off the edge and onto the plate or if you ate them on the go you might as well forget about any toppings at all because it would just end up more on you than in your mouth.
"Whatever Bee, as long as they are good," Grace smiled.
The woman seemed to be in a better mood than normal and Bexon wasn't sure if it had to do with the news she had for him or if it was just her cheerful personality was much brighter when he felt like shit.
"Yeah, Bee make them good," Max said, not looking up from his book. Bexon was fairly sure his phone was resting on the page and he was playing a game or something instead of reading.
Bexon glared at him. He didn't mind the nickname "Bee" but only if Grace was the one saying it. Otherwise, it was just an annoyance and made him sound like a damn bumblebee or something.
Bexon got the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt mixing all the dry ingredients together. Then added the cashew milk, vanilla, eggs, butter, and blueberries into the mixture.
He was able to work quickly with the recipe, something he had memorized since he was a kid and would wake up with Cassy and they would make breakfast for their parents on the weekend and then have to spend hours cleaning the kitchen because no matter what it always got out of hand and flour would end up everywhere.
