Halloween is a complete mind fuck. They didn't hide who the killer was but it's mostly all about the jump-scare factors and suspense. Surprisingly, this movie was co-directed by a woman, which was very rare at the time (1978).

This movie is famous for multiple different reasons.

#1: Lots of sex, implied sex, and lots of boobs.

#2: Michael Myers just being Michael Myers and doing what he does best, killing people.

#3: Sex=Death in this movie.

Here's the google explaination:

On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith's Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims.

There's not any gore really. The director wanted to focus and experiment on the suspension and the ability to manipulate people through films.

I'd highly recommend it but farther into the series things get gory.
