Grayson
I'll admit, a week ago when I woke up hungover and alone, it was disappointing. What occurred that night was beyond me, I've never found myself doing something like that before. And I wasn't drunk enough to blame the alcohol either. Her necklace was left on my bedroom floor; it was engraved with what I hoped spelled her name.... Nalea? The spelling was unique.
Did she leave a note on my end table?
Can't stay, I'm late for my lecture.
- N.T.
I thought about it, the note I mean. Then I thought about the night we shared too. I don't know what happened, but some time during sex, her smell changed, it was heavenly, a mixture of bubblegum and cherries.
Was she my mate, could she be? A part of me was relieved that she was gone the morning... if she'd stayed, how would I tell her? She seems to know about us and didn't even hesitate when she saw my glowing red eyes or my fangs.
She wasn't scared of the bite. I couldn't tell whether she was extremely brave or insane... maybe both? Now imagine my surprise seeing Nalea on the floor before me. She looked at me, shocked and unsure. I understood her reaction, the guy she slept with and then disappeared on him was now standing in front of her. How... fitting...
I tilted my head a bit, taking her in, her scent, it was now stronger than it was that night. Any doubts I may have had of her being my mate are no more.
But there was something else... she didn't quite smell human either.
"Shit, here," I said, extending my hand to help her up."Uh hi," she sighed, taking my hand and pulling herself up. I didn't miss the surge of electricity that racked through me with her touch. "Sorry for bumping into you there," she pulled her hand back and began dusting off her clothes and fixing the bag on her back.
Did she feel it too?
"Not a problem, Nalea right?" I questioned. I needed to be sure it was her name.
"Yeah, and you're Grayson." She picked up her basket from the floor that had remained perfectly intact. She focused her gaze on the one in mine, "I see you like food," she said looking back at me.
"What," I chuckled, "I suppose we have that in common," I joked, eyeing her basket.
"Okay, you laugh now, but most vamps tend to stick to a blood-only diet," she whispered.
A smile plastered on her face, I took the time to really take her in, she had grey, almost white eyes, and they stood out, but it when perfectly with her smooth light brown skin.
She's fucking beautiful.
"Yeah?" She nodded in response, "So do you go to the university here?"
"Uh-huh, yeah," she replied awkwardly, "I do, in my second year, but I did the first online."
We began walking the isles of the store, talking, and picking things up together. We walked through the self-checkout before making our way out.
It's dark now, the sun was gone and replaced with the glow of the first moon.
"Let me walk you to your car?" I asked, but it wasn't a question, I'd walk her anyway.
"While that's very sweet, I'm actually walking," she smiled, a dimple on one cheek.
"It's dark out and dangerous. I'll give you a ride."
I watched as she popped a lollipop in her mouth before pulling it out again, "It's fine I don't mind walking."
"Yeah no, come on, my car is this way." I pointed in the direction of my car.
We walked together, placing her bags in the back and climbing in the front.
"Call out the directions for me?" I asked, she could've used the GPS but I'd prefer to talk to her as we drove.
"You know where green's building is right?"
"Mhmm," I started the engine, taking my time, saying goodbye to her would be torture.
"Nalea?"
"Yes, Gray?"
Shit, that nickname did things to my brain.
"What's your last name?" I asked.
"What's your last name?" She questioned suspiciously.
"Sanchez, yours?"
"Thomas,"
"Go on a date with me?" I asked, glancing at her before turning my attention back to the road, I saw her eyes on me, watching my movements carefully.
"I was not expecting that-" she sighed, "w- why, I mean yeah sure."
"Friday?"
"Um, I have a lecture on Friday,"
"After I could pick you up, we'd go get lunch?"
"Take a left, it's the second building," she said, her voice distant. She didn't give an answer.
I pulled up in front of the building looking out."You live here?"
"Yeah, apartment five o' two," she said winking, "I'll see you Friday then? Want me to give you my number?"
So that was a yes to the date?
I gave her my phone and watched as she typed the number, "just text me and I'll have yours. Bye Grayson."
"Want me to walk you up?" I asked.
"No it's fine," she smiled. Hopping out of the vehicle and taking her things with her.
I waited until she walked into the building before driving off.
God, I just found my mate.... did she know that I was hers? What was she? Her scent wasn't human, but it didn't smell like anything I'd smelt before.
I need to figure my shit out. Did I even want a mate? I never really gave much thought to the subject before last week.
