Chapter 1: The Arrival of the Crown Prince Jeonghan of Silla
The palanquin moves slowly and Crown Prince of the Fallen Silla, Jeonghan, fidgetting his fingers as he was nervous about living in Goryeo's Palace.
He sighed for the nth time and opens the window of the palanquin,
"How long does this trip takes, Mister??" he gently said and the bodyguard glanced him before answering."Maybe half of the day, Crown Prince." he said.
Jeonghan nods as he slowly closed the window and sighed again.
While he gets bored, he plays with his hands again and suddenly remembered his family.
Their wealthy and safe country, Silla.
He was the only son of the Queen, his father died in the battle while competiting with the Japanese invader, and he still a baby when that war happened. When he was presented to the country, it was a wonderful day for the commoners and nobles, a baby boy was born to reign their prosperous country and will do anything to protect it's land.
The queen protects Jeonghan and taught him on how to survive in this lifetime, where the nobles are in the red line. Where they are easily to be killed and to be destroyed, but the little Jeonghan did survive.
The little Jeonghan is a playful child, but wise. While growing up, he play tricks with her servants like hiding and let them find him up until the sun became moon, color their clothes with a fabric color dye, and tricking them that his mother called them and he'll rush out in the palace grounds to play with the commoners and servant's children. Although Jeonghan always tricks his servant, he's a wise child. In the age of 3, he can recite his past king's names and their success in their period and writes the Silla's Palace rules. In the age of 5, he memorized singing the anthem of the Silla and dances the Silla's folkdances. In the age of 10, he passed the Scholar's exams beating the 20 year old other Scholars. In age of 15, he mastered many martial arts and in 17, and he's getting married to the emperor.
He sighed again and looked on his norigae and another memories of his childhood flashes back to his mind.
He met his friend, Cho. Cho and his family is a noble visitors at that time, he was wondering why there so many people gathering to the palace and everyone is busy, including his teacher and servant. He felt lonely, he never felt the kingdom this busy even there's a celebration, his companion still give time for him and to play with him. Today's different indeed.
He was walking quietly in the bridge when he suddenly stepped on a rock that made him slipped, he shouted and expecting to fall on the cold water of spring but his expectation didn't happen when he felt a grip on his hand and pulled him closer to that person.
He knew that he's a noble person based on it's style and firm. Young Crown Prince Jeonghan felt safe and warm inside those arms, and he hopes that they'll spend together inside the palace.
And, they did. His hyung, Cho. Stay for a quite long time in the palace. They played and the older taught him a lot, like archery, some philosophical books and explore outside the palace that made the Young Crown Prince smile from ear to ear. Cho treated him like his younger sibling and takes care of him like a fragile glass.
"Jjongjjong," Cho-hyung called me while smiling ear to ear that made me excited. We are both here at the Astronomical House that Astronomer Lee works and looking up at the sky.
"What's the matter, Hyung?" I asked him and he sat beside me and he closes my eyes with his free hand, "Hyung, don't push me okay?" I warned him, since we are both sitting on the edge of the terrace.
"Nope. I won't of course." He said and counts to 3 before releasing his hands on to my eyes, showing me a gift.
"Tadaa! For you, my little Jjongjjongie!" He smiled and gave me the box of his gift."My birthday is on the 10th month, hyung?" I asked him confusedly and he laughed.
"Just open it, Jeonghan. I know that you will love it." He said while smiling.
"If this an insects or something, I will push you here, hyung." I warned him before opening the gift.
"Hyung, this is beautiful!" I smiled as I grab the norigae. A Sculpted Amethyst colored Jade in its shape of dove and a purple strands of its threads. It's beautiful to my eyes.
"You can always keep it, Jeonghan. Until you found someone you love." He said and I looked at him, his smile didn't reach in his ears not like earlier. He had this bittersweet smile.
He grab the other thing inside the box, an Opal ring with a daisy on its middle.
"This is from my dearest Grandmother, she told me that I should give this to the person who I will take care till I die." He explains. "And it's you, Jeonghan. Wear this when you're gonna get married, whatever if its a girl or a boy, I should see you wearing them." He said while looking on to my eyes.
"But, It's from your grandmother, you should give this to your younger siblings or maybe daughters someday. Why did you gave this to me?" I asked but he doesn't answer but he smiled instead. And I stopped asking, because I know that he will never say his reasons.
We watched the stars together and while we're watching them, a shooting star flew.
"Make a wish, Jeonghan! Quick!" he said before clasping his hands and closes his eyes.
I forgot to wish but I watched him wish for that certain star, wondering what he wished and the meaning of all of this things that he gave to me.
Not long ago, Jeonghan grew up looking feminine. It affects the older that made him decide that he should have distance for Jeonghan for a while. The older falling inlove with the younger, and he knew that it will affects the union of each government. He shouldn't fall inlove with the 12 years old Jeonghan, and Jeonghan shouldn't fall inlove also with the 20 years old Cho. That made Cho a decision, and the solution is, leaving and change the feelings of the younger towards to him. In short, Jeonghan should be mad at him.
"Hyung, I love you. Please don't go."
"Your Highness, I should leave." Cho said while walking through the palace hall and ignoring the younger whose chasing him behind.
"Why? Because we are both men and people will judge us? Hyung, please. Let me love you, I know that you love me ba--"
" I don't love you, Jeonghan." Cho turned at his back and confront Jeonghan. "I didn't love you at first, you fell inlove towards to me.. A-and," As Cho saw Jeonghan's building tears to his eyes, he gulped and resist his self not to wipe those precious tears and hug Jeonghan tight. "A-and, I despise men falling inlove with other men." He finally said, the words that destroy the Young Prince heart.
Jeonghan's tears starts to fall and still in shock to the fact that his Hyung, despise him being inlove with him..
And Jeonghan's heart slowly crumble as his Hyung turned back to him and walked far to him.
"Crown Prince Jeonghan..." He snapped back to reality as the commander-in-chief called him.
"Yes? What is it?" He said and he wears the Opal ring on his left index finger.
"We are near on the palace, Crown Prince." He said. "I hope you have a great adventure with us." the commander said.
He smiled and nodded. Even he always asks and sigh about the distance, the commander didn't give him a cold shoulder. Instead, he gave him reassurance that he will arrive at the Palace safe and sound.
"I hope you'll find happiness too, Commander Kim Mingyu." He said and rest his self to the palanquin and looked on the ring for the last time.
'I'm getting married, Hyung. I hope you see me walking in the aisle.'
