JIDE’S POV…
I was in my hotel room when Charles, my friend came in. “I’d thought you would have left for Abuja since last week.” He said as he sat on the spacious bed beside me. I giggled as I walked to the mini table in the room and serve him a drink. “Have you forgotten that today is the party you told me about?” I asked handing over the drink to him.
“Why are you insisting on reveling Yesmin’s secret?” Charles asked giving me a suspicious look. “You don’t love her any ways, why don’t you just use her lifestyle as an excuse and break off the engagement? You don’t have to spy about her deeper.” He suggested looking stressed out.
I smiled as I adjusted myself on the seat. “I don’t know why I am suddenly interested in the lives of those young girls. I want to know the reason why Yesmin has been lying to the whole family all these years.” I said staring at the glass of wine in my hand. Charles sighed deeply as he moved closer to me. “Just let it slide. It’s good enough that you have realized she is a bad girl. Then just let her go Jide.” He said looking worried.
I smiled at him and walk to the wardrobe. “Stop panicking Charles. Just get up and get ready. I have got some designer suits for us.” I said as I brought out a small suit case containing the outfits. “Let’s go Charles. Let’s find out the hidden secrets of those young ladies.” I added with smile on my face…
KATE’S POV…
The interesting sound of slow music that was played by the DJ caught the attention of the whole guests in the hall as they stare at us walking into the hall through the hallway. I was walking in the front with my friend behind me. Everyone in the hall was clapping as we begin dancing in the field. I was field with joy as we danced together for a while. It’s surely a memorable moment for us; I can sight happiness in the faces of my friends especially Mars who was moving her body with all her guts.
I don’t have proper words to explain how adorable my birthday party was. It’s a combination of anything classy, rich and elegant. From the venue, the quality of food and drinks, the outfits we wore and the guests we invited, everything was perfect. Different rich guys from different part of the country arrived in expensive cars and luxurious outfits. There were also beautiful and hot ladies from within and across the campus. A lot to eat and drink and also some artist within Lagos state also arrived. It was a party like never before. Well, what would you expect in the party of hot ladies?
“I’d never thought the turn up will be this much.” Mars said as we were standing by a corner. I giggled as I folded my arms. “Well, we ended up inviting many people then.” I replied looking at the crowd of people dancing. “This is really interesting. Everyone is happy.” Yesmin chipped in.
Mars stretched her neck looking deep into the crowd. “Are you expecting someone?” I asked looking at her. She sighed slowly. “It’s Jenny. I can’t seem to find her since.” She said still staring at the huge crowd of people. “Oh. I saw her earlier talking to Mr. Greg earlier. Guess they are still together.” Yesmin said waved at a waiter.
My heart skipped a beat instantly as I almost get chocked. “Be careful babe.” Yesmin said as she picked a glass of wine from the waiter. Mars was already looking angry. Her mood changed instantly. “Greg? What is he doing here? Who invited him?” She asked with a curious face. I quickly picked a drink and offered her one. “Calm down babe. I am sure it’s a harmless invite. Don’t even start thinking wild.” I said stammering.
I am sure Mars wasn’t satisfied with my response as she gave me a suspicious look and sipped her drink. I also sipped mine and nearly chocked again. I was already feeling suffocated with Mars behaviors. I just hope this party ends peacefully. The DJ announced time for a game and we all walked to the podium. “At least this will calm Mars down a bit.” I said to myself as we sat on a large sofa on the podium.
The games were really interesting. We played a lot. Truth or dares, kissing booth, spin the bottle, dance competitions, fashion parades and lots more. Yesmin was the item for kissing booth. She kissed three guys already. The last guy walked majestically to the booth to kiss her. As she raised her head with an alluring smile, she paused instantly. The guy also stood looking at her. She looked shocked seeing him.
I quickly stood up and moved closer to get a glimpse of what’s happening. I was also surprised as I hold my mouth. “JIDE!” I shouted looking at him. He giggled with a boring smile on his face. He moved closer to Yesmin and leaned his hands on the booth. “So this is it right? This is the life you live right?” he asked looking disappointed.
We were all mute for a while. Before she could struggle to bring up some words, Jide has already turned and leave. She broke into tears instantly. Not everyone in the hall noticed what happened, so we quickly helped her to a corner and comforted her.
“How does he know about the party?” Jenny asked looking at Yesmin who was slowly shedding tears. She sniffed a bit. “How would I know where he gets an invite? I am totally confused.” She replied crying. I slowly moved to her and hugged her. “Its fine babe, we will settle this together.” I said trying to comfort her.
Mars folded her arms and cleared her through. “Well, I think that should be better for you right? You don’t have to stay with someone you don’t like at the first place.” She said staring at Yesmin. Jenny giggled and faces Mars. “That was harsh you know. Her fiancé just saw her kissing other guys. You should at least not make it worse if you are not comforting her.” Jenny explained bitterly.
Mars unfolded her arms and stare blankly at Jenny. “Oh please. We still have to talk about how you brought that fucking man to our party.” She shouted at Jenny. “That was rude bitch.” Jenny shouted back almost pushing back Mars.
At this point, I know things are about getting out of hand so I quickly stood in between them. “It’s okay ladies. Let’s talk about this at home.” I said looking at the girls who are furiously staring at each other. “Let’s go cut the cake. We are keeping the guests waiting.” Mars said as she walked away.
I sluggishly walked to the big cake that was kept by the corner of the hall. The other ladies stood beside me. I don’t know why my heart keeps racing fast. May be it’s because I am still waiting for Steve’s surprise. “I just hope Steve won’t make things worst at this party.” I said as I picked the knife and cut the cake. The knife got stocked on something. I was struggling to get it out when Steve appeared in front of me. I tried and brought out the knife. A golden ring suddenly fell from the cake.
I was totally shocked as all my friends stared blankly at me. Steve slowly knelt in front of me and picked the ring. He has a huge smile on his face. “Kate!” He called with a soft voice. My feet were trembling because I was sure he was about to propose. I slowly looked at Mars who was already looking furious. She was staring at me with a rage full face.
Steve adjusted himself on the floor and started talking. “I don’t know when I started smiling whenever I remember you. I don’t know when I feel the need to keep you all to myself. I don’t know when my life changed this much. All I know is that you changed my life and I love this change.” He said staring at me. He stretched his hands with the ring and grabbed my hand. “Will you marry me?” Steve asked looking at me with a smile.
All the guests in the hall were shouting and chorusing “YES. YES.” My friends were as shocked as I was. I never expected Steve to propose right now. Jenny wasn’t surprised because she knew this will be coming. Mars moved closer to me and faces me. “So you all have finally proven my suspect right. So you also betrayed me right? I thought it was just Jenny and Yesmin, now you also.” She said with tears rolling on her face.
I don’t know exactly how she feels but I am sure she felt more terrible than me. Steve was still knelling waiting for my response as the whole people stopped shouting, bringing their attention to us. I quickly grabbed Mars’s hand trying to talk. She pushed me away. “You all should stay away from me. Bunche of betrayers.” She shouted as she turned and rushed out of the hall crying.
