{8} Back to Base

"I wonder why monsieur Brimstone called us back." He thought out loud.
"Yea... It's kind of weird, not something I expected at least. Though I had fun on the trip."
"I'm glad~" He chuckled.
You yawned, stretching your arms above your head. "I really need a walk!"
"I could join you"
"Like you can keep up with me, fancy pants."
"I'm sure I could, mon amour~" You rolled your eyes, getting up from the table and beginning to walk away and down the halls. Hearing his footsteps quickly catch up and then walk next to you. 
"Wanna race?" You teased
"I'd beat you in a race any day" He laughed
"Bet." You dashed off ahead of him and he grinned, quickly following after you. "Screw you and your long legs!" You yelled.
"You already have~" He smirked, following close behind you.
"H-hey! That's not fair!" You blushed, wanting to hide your face.
"Nothing's fair in love and war" He chuckled, passing you.
"FUCK!" You ran after him as fast as you could before you both had to pause due to your phone's vibrating... It was an email to all the agents about how he had called them back to stay in base. 
"I wonder what this is about" You question before shrugging your shoulders.
"No clue, but to ask us to stay could suggest something dangerous." He frowned at his phone before putting it away.
"I'd rather think positively, French man." You hummed. "We should go in and eat something, I am starving!"
"Sounds good," He offered his hand. "May I lead you, cherie?~" 
This made you laugh and placed your hand in his. "Sure, dork."
He rolled his eyes with a smile still plastered to his face as he led you inside and to the cafeteria. "I hope they have something good today." He hummed.
You looked around and saw Viper, Jett, Phoenix and Sage all in here already. They were all doing their own things like Jett and Phoenix playing a card game that it seemed like Phoenix was terrible at while Viper was eating with Sage who tried to talk to the unresponsive Viper.
You just shrugged and headed to the kitchen with a small smile, "Food!~" You grabbed a bowl of the soup and you could just tell it was made by Sage.. she was always a great cook.
Chamber had let you drag him in here and rolled his eyes, "Smells delicious" 
"Sage definitely made this, such a heavenly smell! She's great at cooking!" You said excitedly as you went at your soup right then and there. It just warmed you up and made you feel all cuddly!
"It is quite good, I'm impressed" He chuckled at your adorable reaction, it looked like you were melting on the spot.

You and Chamber parted ways for a short period of time, both off to do your own things like catching up with friends or checking on some work, maybe going to read! You decided it would  be fun to try and learn how to dance. Watching multiple videos on your phone and trying to follow the steps and guidance the videos gave, but you just kept managing to stumble over your feet and fall on your ass. It was quite pitiful to the outside person.
"Ugh! This is so annoying!" You huffed, sitting down as you took a small break from these little mishaps. 
Going over the steps in your head and rewatching the video again... you stared intently. You would do this! You had always wanted to, and it seemed like so much fun if you knew what you were doing. Maybe you could give the protocol a little dance routine show of sorts. Getting back onto your feet and stretching, you took a few deep breaths. "I got this!" You hyped yourself up and as you tried to follow along with many stumbles along the way, you didn't fall this time! One step closer to success! You cheered and grinned, "Finally!"
When you heard a knock at the door that almost made you jump out of your skin. You quickly walked over and answered it. What a surprise to see Chamber again so soon! It had only been a half hour!... you checked the time and it had been apparently two hours. Man... you really need to keep better track of time.
"Hey Chamber! I didn't realize how long I had been in here."
"Good evening~ I heard a lot of noise from here, and it thumps"
"Oh, yeaaaaa about that. I was trying to learn how to dance! But um, I just kept stumbling. I'm getting the hang of it though!"
"Be persistent on working on it then~ May I ask what type of dance?"
"Hip hop! I think it's super cool how people can manage to dance like that!" You exclaimed with a large grin.
"Ah, something I don't know how to do. I would have offered to help, but I know few types of dances. Like the salsa, ballroom dancing, the tango. Stuff like that"
"I'd love to learn how to ballroom dance! Can you teach me?"
"Of course" He offered a hand, which you eagerly grabbed. "Follow my lead." He put a hand on your waist and the other tangled with yours. "Now put your other hand on my shoulder" You did as told and smiled at him, this was... very close in proximity.
"Oh, this is... very close and touchy"
"All of the dances I know are, now this way" He led you around the room, you stepped on his feet a few times and apologized profusely each time you did. "It's alright, just... please try and make sure not to. Let's go again"
You guys kept practicing to the point that you actually got pretty good at it, it was like the world was a blur and it was just you two... dancing on this nice evening together. Nothing but his chocolate eyes staring into your E/C orbs. Then it slowly came to a halt.
"You did wonderfully, Y/N." 
"Th-thank you! That was fun... I'd love to dance with you again" You nervously fidgeted.
"Of course, another day. It's getting late." He ruffled your hair gently. "I'll see you tomorrow on the mission."
"W-wait! Stay here... please?" You begged, a light blush dusting your cheeks. He chuckled at your reddening face
"Let me get changed then, I'll be back." He gently kissed your forehead and left the room.

It was probably an hour later... something like that. He had left for maybe 5-10 minutes before coming back and you two had been laying here for an hour just talking quietly together with small laughs in between. You and Chamber were cuddling in your room by this point, him managing to sneak past the other dorms and people. His warm body pressed against yours. He smelled like vanilla... such a soft yet sweet scent that enveloped you and made you feel so at ease.
Built arms wrapped around your torso as he held you against his chest, his face in your hair as his chest rose and fell rhythmically. It was all peaceful... and that made you happy. You really never did find much peace here, always so bustling and or loud. Things always going on, just like the recent explosion in the lab. It was nice to relax like this.
It was also surprising to the well-dressed French agent wearing something more casual. A loose comfortable shirt with long pajama pants, he seemed to be dozing off. It just made your heart melt even further.
Slowly you began to doze off in his arms, your own wrapped around him as you nuzzled your face against his chest. You could hear a quiet, "Goodnight, mon amour.." before you fell asleep.

Sorry for the shorter chapter... I've been having a hard time with motivation and I have some big plans for the next chapter! Hopefully it'll be longer to make up for this... I love you all!
