{10} Breath of Air

A bright light shone into your eyes, wincing at how it hurt your eyes that had adjusted to the dark.
 "A/N?" The soft faded voice of Sage spoke up, your ears were ringing. Where were you? Last you knew... you were back in Italy up on the broken fragments of land that floated in the clear sky despite all the pain that had come. The least the sky could have done was cry for its people.
"Sage...? Where am I? What happened?" Your voice was hoarse, scratchy. You tried to rub your eyes to at least gain some sight from the blinding lights. 
"You're in the infirmary... A/N you died." That immediately got you sitting up, looking around in fear. 
"Wh-What?! You're kidding right?... You have to be!" Freaking out almost instantaneously but Sage put a gentle hand on your stomach and laid you back down.
"No, I'm not. Please relax, your body is still adjusting." You nodded in understanding and sighed softly. With each breath of air you took, it felt invigorating like it was fresh and the best thing you had ever had. "You have a visitor by the way, he's been waiting for... a few hours. Would you like to see him? Or do you think you need to rest more?"
"Please... send him in. I need the distraction" You murmured softly to the black-haired woman who nodded and stepped out of the room. The door gently shut behind her and you could hear two people talking, you wondered who came to see you. Guess you'd see soon. You laid back more comfortably, trying to find the best way to lay. A smile sigh of relief escaped your lips when you did.
A few moments later the door opened and quick as it had opened it closed. You turned your head only to see the face of a worried French man. He sat in a chair and grabbed one of your hands gently in his own. "Cherie... I was so worried. I- I thought I lost you" He sounded so sad, scared. His voice breaking slightly at the memory of your lifeless body in his arms. "I'm sorry...! I should've been there with you!" Tears cascaded down his soft cheeks, it looked like he had been crying a lot before this. You frowned in worry over the man who had never lost his composure before. His head was lowered, forehead pressed against your hand as he cried.
"Chamber... I'm not going anywhere, none of this is your fault. I promise" You tried to reassure but he shook his head,
"I should've been there A/N..."
"But you couldn't have known." Gently you took your hand back to grab his face and tilt it up to look at you. "You are a great person Chamber... I know you are." Your thumb caressed his now damp cheek. Tears still bubbled up in the corners of his eyes, you couldn't help the feeling of your heart squeezing in pain at the sight of his saddened and disheveled state. Gently you began wiping away his tears with your fingers.
"Cherie..." He leaned into your hands a bit, sniffling a bit. He slowly took off his glasses and set them aside. "You're too nice to me" He laughed softly, trying to ease himself.
"Says the one who's an absolute sweetheart to me" You smiled at him, "Thank you"
"For what?"
"Caring" They laughed a little, "The fact that you care so much about me..." Makes my heart flutter you thought to yourself as you paused for a moment. "So very happy." 
"Mon amour..." He couldn't help the way his lips tugged into a brighter smile. "You're so adorable~" He took your hands off his cheeks and instead began to caress your face. "Is there anything you need?"
"How about a walk? I'd love to feel the nice fresh air."
"It's quite late"
"What time is it?"
"7 pm, you were out for quite a while."
"Oh" You trailed off for a second, "Can we still go out for a bit?"
"If you insist" He stood up, picking up his glasses and putting them back onto his face. His vision became clearer now as he offered a hand to you.
You sat up and took his hand to which he helped you up from the bed. He didn't let go of your hand as you two walked out of the infirmary and into the hallways of the base that was quieter for the time being. The sound of your two steps on the cold hard floor resonated in the hall before you both approached the door to the outside.
"After you cherie~" He held the door open for you, instantly a rush of cool night air hit you. It was refreshing to the say the least as it hit your warm skin. Taking a step out into the night you smiled more, stepping onto the grass and hearing it crunch under your feet. You were gone for so little, but it felt like it was for so long.
"This feels so good" You took in a long breath of air, giggling a bit as you spun.
Chamber felt his heart melt at you, such adorable behavior and yet you were so gorgeous already. He shouldn't be getting attached but he couldn't help it. He knew he had fallen too deep and there was no way out now. 
"Having fun?" He questioned as he walked up to you, the sound of his shoes crunching against the grass as he walked closer sounded in your ears. You turned to him and nodded quickly.
"Yes, I didn't think I'd miss air so much until now!" 
He chuckled a bit, "Really? Well, that makes sense, you stop for a while... and you miss it." He hummed, seemingly lost in his thoughts for a bit. You turned to him when he was lost in his own head, quietly walking up to him and wrapping your arms around his larger frame. That quick snapped him out of it and he felt his cheeks dust a light red before wrapping his arms around you. "What's this for?"
"Cause I felt like it" You smiled, "Plus, you're really cozy..." He carded a hand through your hair, laughing softly. The sound reverberated deep inside his chest, and you could feel it go through his whole body.
"Let's go inside, hm? ~ I'll carry you to your room"
"Hey! I can walk, and I'm only going inside if you stay the night with me." His cheeks flared up a bit at the bluntness of their words.
"Fine fine~ I'll stay the night with you"
"Great! Let's go! I really want to cuddle" You smiled up at him, slowly unwrapping your arms from him. He was already missing your arms around him, it was comfortable... and he wanted it to stay there, maybe later.
"Alright~" He took your hand in his, intertwining your fingers together before he led the way back inside.
You couldn't help the way your heart kept fluttering when he did these small things, it was great. The sound of your soft breathing and his together as your footsteps reverberated in the halls brought you ease for some reason.
He walked up to the door and gestured for you to put your handprint on the screen. You placed your free hand on the screen, and it lit up before unlocking. He led you both inside and smiled softly, "Go change cherie~" He let go of your hand.
You pouted a little but nodded, going to your wardrobe and searching for something comfortable. Once you found what you wanted you headed into the bathroom. Chamber sat on the bed before undressing to only his boxers, slightly intimate but, you two were only going to cuddle. A few moments later you came out in something comfy, a shirt and some fluffy pants that worked well for pajamas. 
"I'm done!" You walked over to where he was and tried to fight off the blush that threatened to show on your cheeks from the way he was... lacking in clothing.
"You look comfortable~"
"So do you" You laughed softly and went to lay down in bed, getting under the layers of blankets and your sheet. He followed suite with a cheeky grin that etched onto his face, he got next to you and slowly wrapped his arms around your body.
You felt safe in his arms, grabbing for the remote to turn off your lights. Once the lights were off you rolled onto your side with your face against his chest, gently nuzzling your nose against him and inhaling his soft scent of vanilla. You wrapped your arms around his torso, hands gently grabbing at his back.
You both fell asleep, legs in a tangled mess with each other and soft breathing coming from the two of you. It was peaceful, calm, a major difference from what had occurred earlier that day, but it was a welcomed difference. You could get used to this, maybe you two could make something more. Sweet dreams danced in both of your heads a dream connected but they could never tell, where both were living a nice cozy domestic life with two cats. Chatting over hot cocoa on a cold night while cuddling in a blanket together on the couch. The TV playing in the background and your two cats purring next to each other.
Maybe that would be real some day.

Sorry I've been on and off with writing! I want to write when I'm ready to so I'm proud of what I write and it's better! I may be sick right now, but I'll keep trying to update! I hope this was a good change of pace from what happened last chapter...  Not sorry.
