Loss - A Hu Tao Centered Fic

Chapter 1

Umm... hello? Before you go on to read the story, I have something very important to say. This is not my own original AU of Genshin Impact, that belongs to Obahar_ on Wattpad. They have given me permission to write an alternate event in their story "Hu Tao x Reader - A Morbid Curiosity", and Hu Tao's POV in the story "Inazuma x reader - Lost to Eternity". It's very important for you to go and read those two stories before reading this simply because it'll be very confusing for what is to happen in what I wrote.

Another thing to say, this is my first Genshin Impact fic, so sorry if I portrayed the characters not in their forms, it's quite difficult to portray a character exactly as they are in the source material.

Who would have ever thought that the Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor would be doing this? Jumping off the Jade Chamber, about a hundred or so feet in the air, just to land in the water where Osial once was? She knew that the landing wouldn't be pleasant, but she had to try! She couldn't believe that the Liyue Qixing had the audacity to begin celebrating Osial's defeat, despite the fact that the one who defeated Osial was currently drowning!

"At least they could've looked over the edge, but they didn't!"

Seeing her impending collision with the sea, she took in a deep breath and closed her eyes. Hu Tao could feel her clothes getting wet instantly, her skin getting colder, with the exception of a small area on her back that had a warm feeling, and the noticeable lack of oxygen for her to breathe. Opening her eyes, Hu Tao looked around her to see if she could spot Y/N, but her vision was extremely blurry and her hearing was extremely muffled. Looking around herself, Hu Tao could barely spot a blurry sphere that was surrounding a figure.

"That's gotta be my sweetie! It has to be!"

Swimming over to the sphere, Hu Tao could definitely see that it was Y/N, but instead of the cocoon-like sphere going downwards, it was drifting away from her. Hu Tao used up more of her little oxygen supply to stay awake, and began to swim faster to reach her sweetie. Once she was close, she reached out, trying to grab Y/N, her hand centimeters away from grabbing onto their shirt, but missed them. Not giving up, she used up more oxygen and tried swimming faster, but it was difficult and she could tell she was running out of oxygen to spare. Trying to grab again, she reached out, even closer than she was before, but was still unable to grab Y/N.

Before she had the chance to reach out again, the water cocoon began to no longer drift, but move away from Hu Tao faster than it was when drifting. Hu Tao tried to use up more of the oxygen being held in her mouth, but realized something. She had run out of oxygen to use up. Giving her all, Hu Tao tried yet again to swim faster, but the cocoon had gotten out of her reach.

"NO! SWEETIE! COME BACK!" Hu Tao tried to yell out, but was instead greeted with water rushing into her mouth. Feeling the water enter her, she accidentally breathed it in, filling her lungs with water. After the sudden intrusion, she had started to sink deeper into the sea, but she wouldn't give up.

She positioned herself to keep swimming, and swam as fast as she could, but it seemed no matter how fast she was moving, the cocoon was moving much faster than she was. The image of her lover was becoming more and more blurry, and eventually, she couldn't see them anymore.

"N-no... Y/N... please come back... don't leave...me..." Hu Tao could see the bubbles from her mouth stop forming. She could feel herself sinking deeper and deeper, her sight going darker and darker, and that the small area on her back becoming colder and colder.
