{ Scene 20: Crashing Waves }

When a ship sets sail across the ocean and into the rickety waves, it does so with a crew of men, ready to face whatever lies in the depths of the sea. A man searches atop the lookout tower, calling out a defensive warning at the sight of enemies on the horizon. Another steers the wheel, directing the boat against the crashing ocean and swirling winds, keeping the sail afloat. But as this ship swerved into the fiery waters, a biome filled with creatures crawling to the surface, without their cannon master – the one to fire an attack – they were defenseless.

Sparks flickered into the air, catching the canvas of the mast. The holes burned slowly and painfully, so much so the wheel bearer could feel the fire in their own chest, eating away at the air in their lungs.

The man in the lookout tower could only watch from above. If he left his perch in the sky, he'd be abandoning his role. But with his crewmate gone, and the other bent over in suffering, what else could he do?

Kirishima swallowed down his crawling worry. For fear that if he didn't push on, if he crawled down from that tower, the fear would consume him whole, and the people who needed saving would be tossed to the roaring waves. Now was not the time to be held back by regret.

"I-I know you're worried. And I'm worried too, but... he's going to be okay," he said.

Your eyes were still trained on the path ahead, feet carrying you through your words. "We don't know what we're dealing with here. And we aren't getting help. It's up to us... and only us... what happens if, we get hurt or, I don't know–"

"We push on. That's all we can do. We don't let anyone get hurt or suffer if we have a way to prevent it. And that goes for each other."

The boy crawled from his perch, ascending into the cleared road ahead.

"I–I feel like I'm speaking nonsense because," Kirishima sighed. "...I mean, gosh, I don't know if I can believe my own words but... I know this is what we have to do. We have to put our faith in Bakugo that he'll be careful and do what's right. At least, that's what FatGum taught me. Put our faith in our allies."

Following behind him, you stumbled into the clearing, racing down the road together. Sliding over an upturned car, ducking under fallen wires. Like the flames that slowly inched their way closer and closer, you couldn't shake the worry creeping under your skin. Who was going to protect the ship?

"He's upset with me right now."

Kirishima gave you a side eye,

"I really hurt him. And I'm worried he's going to be reckless and hurt himself. This is all my fault. And Kirishima, I hurt you too, just the same... and I'm sorry."

Fueled by the adrenaline of the mission at stake, the words rushed from your head to your mouth before you could hold them back.

"I didn't want to hurt you. I did everything to stop it from coming. But ultimately it was my choice. I accepted that letter and I knew the consequence."

"I know you didn't mean any harm, but I'm also not going to say that what you did was the right thing. That hiding it from us was the right choice," he said, his eyes trained ahead. "Maybe Bakugo sees it differently but, I thought we were closer friends. I thought you could trust us.  It would've been hard to hear but, we would've worked things out together. You know – talked about it and stuff... Once this is over, that's the first thing we should do."

He sighed, turning his gaze to the street ahead. "Because right now, I... don't know if you trust me. And... I'm scared of letting you down. We have a job to do, but, when it comes to us, I just want you guys to succeed, and I don't want to drag you down... I know I'm not the strongest of our peers and... ah, never mind..."
