{ Scene 31: A Path Walked Together }The events at the hospital were blurry. The present was the past. Dreams held physical qualities. What was real were only drifting visions. Time was fluid in a puddle of waking consciousness, like an hourglass had been spilt across the table.
A droning beep, quiet but endless.
Muted chatter. Muffled tears.
Blue uniforms, bright eyes, pouty frowns.
Bakugo's shirt, tattered and torn, folded neatly on the side table, accompanied by a small garden of flowers. Every chance you saw a glimpse of that brilliant red and blonde hair, the blooms multiplied.
Words were exchanged but no memory could hold them.
It wasn't until that calm, early morning that you could feel the ripples of your sheets and the chill of your toes. The ache of your head and the groan of your leg. The warmth of the sun and the weight of that night. A night that seemed to stretch days, pages, chapters.
Shortly after, a nurse came in, surprised and relieved. Her eyes widened in a reflection of your own feelings.
The police report was forgettable. As a pro-hero to be, it wasn't your first. Long, tedious, drawn out. It stirred the uncomfortable, the painful parts of that night. The officers left, and then it was quiet.
Bursting into the room, a teary-eyed, bouncy-curled, blur of pink wrapped you tightly in her arms. She took you home, got your showered, dolled you up, and had you feeling like yourself again.
Sitting in the kitchen nursing a much-needed afternoon cup-of-coffee, your phone dinged lightly on the counter. An email notification.
"Aww, have the boys been texting you?" She cooed, sipping from her mug atop the kitchen laminate, legs swaying like a giddish schoolgirl.
"They did earlier. My phone was dead – and I was kind of dead, so I didn't really read them – "
Mina gasped in amusement.
" –A-Anyway," you chuckled. "Today – this morning, since I've woken up, I haven't heard a thing from them. Not a single text..."
"Strange..." she hummed. "I would've figured they'd be all over you at this point. Begging to come visit, or call you, or something. With the way they've been worrying about you..." She smiled knowingly behind the rim of her mug.
You couldn't reciprocate her playful grin. "Yeah... me too..."
Fingers reached for your phone, thumbing through your notifications. "I wonder if they're still upset with me..."
"Girl. Are you serious?"
Mina motioned with her coffee mug to the bouquets of flowers invading the coffee table of their small apartment.
"Only one of those is from me. Where did you think the other 90% came from?"
It was hard to deny that she had a point.
"I can't speak for them, and they might still be upset with you. But clearly, that's not at the front of their minds right now. You are."
A sigh escaped you. Mina always had a way with words and telling it to you straight. She was truthful in the best way, and you loved her for that. Even when her honesty got the better of her.
