Damn. What now?
My lawyer wasn't lying. My mother didn't know about the apartment and my father used it for work only. Or did he? The strange day I was having, got stranger with every fucking second. I didn't know what to think anymore.
But was it really likely that my father came to an apartment my mother didn't know about, with another woman he was working with, during the day, to talk about business? I mean, they were at work, why would they go to an apartment to talk about business?
They were having an affair. That's the only thing that made any sense at all.
Oh damn. What do I do know?
I went back to my apartment, which my father was obviously using to screw the woman who ran his company with him and took out my phone. I called my lawyer.
"Hey, Mister Peterson, David Miller. I'm sorry for the way I acted before."
"Don't worry about it, David. What can I do for you?"
Yeah, what could he do for me? If my father was really having an affair with that woman, maybe he wanted to break it off... and maybe she didn't like that all that much... and maybe she hired these assholes to take revenge on my father for dumping her.
Was that possible? That way, she could not only take revenge on my dad, but also, all of a sudden, be the lone owner of the company.
"I have to find Mrs. Williams. Do you have her current address?"
"Yes, I believe I have it somewhere. Just a sec."
After a few minutes he had found the phone number and the address of the Willams'.
I was just about to hang up, but then I thought Jeff Peterson might know what happened to the company after my parents died.
"Oh, and... Mister Peterson..."
"Yes, David?"
"Is Mrs. Williams still running the company?"
"No, David. As far as I know she quit her job."
"Oh really? When?"
"I think about six months after your parent's died."
"Just like that? What happened?"
"As far as I know, she had some sort of car accident. Apparently, she got hurt pretty badly. So, she quit her job."
What?
That fucking day just didn't stop. The last two days were so overwhelming, I was exhausted.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes. Unfortunately, I think that's what happened. Why, David? Did you know her well?"
"Yes, I knew her."
Actually, I barely knew her. But what now? Did that change anything? She still could have hired these guys to kill my father. A car accident at some point didn't change anything about that.
"Do you think I can still visit her? Was she hurt badly?"
"Look, David, I don't know all the facts. I don't know what happened exactly. I just remember, because I read about the accident. I think her car was hit by another car, it veered off the road and turned over a couple of times. The other car just drove off. That's all I know, David."
Fuck. What the hell?
"I see. Well, I will... go visit her... I think. Thank you. Bye."
I hung up.
