Today was Friday and I was going over to Nico's house after school. I was a jumble of nerves and I took much longer than usual to get ready. I wanted to look nice. I know this wasn't a date or anything, but I still wanted to look good.
I wore a loose cream tank top tucked into a pair of jeans and I put a cream sweater over top. It wasn't anything fancy, but it also wasn't my usual t-shirt either. I pulled my copper hair back into a neat ponytail and even brushed on some mascara which was very unusual for me.
I was eating breakfast at the table and I had Nico's sweatshirt resting on my lap so I could give it back to him today.
My stomach was in knots, but I forced myself to eat breakfast anyways. I knew I would regret it later if I didn't. My stomach had gotten used to eating breakfast now that I had the time to, and I would be hungry later if I didn't eat.
I jumped at the knock on the door and rushed over to answer it before anyone else could.
"Hi," I said to Nico as I slipped outside.
"Hi," he chuckled. "You look beautiful."
I blushed at the compliment but I didn't have any hair down to hide it.
"Thank you."
We walked to his car and I remembered his sweatshirt in my hands.
"Here," I said. "I forgot to give this back to you."
"Keep it," Nico told me. "It looks better on you anyways."
Me being me, I blushed fiercely before tucking the hoody into my backpack.
The day went by fast. Almost too fast, and now it was time for movie night at Nico's.
"You ready?" he asked me at the end of the day and I nodded.
We walked down the hall hand in hand and I noticed people's stares. I looked down and started to pull my hand away, but Nico gripped it tighter.
"Don't worry about them," he whispered in my ear.
I tried my best but it was hard to ignore the whispers and the looks. I was relieved when we were out of the building and in his car.
We drove past my house and less than five minutes later, we were at an apartment complex.
Nico took my hand and led me up to his apartment. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was nice. Comfortable. It definitely fit Nico's style.
I set my bag down by the door and slipped my shoes off. Nico led me to the black leather couch in the living room and told me to make myself comfortable. I sat down and he disappeared. A few minutes later though, he was back with a bowl of popcorn.
"What do you want to watch first?" He asked me and I shrugged.
Nico ended up picking and he settled in beside me to watch.
After a few movies, Nico ordered pizza for us to eat. I offered to pay, but of course he said no. We ate on the couch and Nico picked another movie for us to watch. I looked at my phone and noticed it was getting late.
"Will your parents mind that I'm here this late?" I asked.
"Oh, um, I live alone."
"Oh."
"My dad travels all the time for work so this is just easier."
"Gotcha."
I didn't pry any further because it didn't seem like a topic he wanted to discuss. Nico pulled out a blanket and draped it over us before putting on the next movie. I rested my head on his shoulder and didn't miss the smile that crossed his face.

I'd slept so good last night and now I didn't want to get up. I snuggled deeper into my bed and the warmth that was enveloping me.
I turned to roll over, but something stopped me. I opened my eyes and it was an arm draped over my waist. Oh my god. It was Nico's arm draped over my waist. I'D FALLEN ASLEEP AT NICO'S APARTMENT!!!
I gently removed Nico's arm and tiptoed over to the bathroom. A light panic set in as I relieved myself and freshened up. I'd spent the night at Nico's. I'd been laying practically on top of him. And he was so comfy. No! Don't think that.
I calmed myself down and went back out to the living room.
"Good morning," Nico greeted me.
"Good morning," I said with a blush.
Nico sat up and I sat next to him, leaving a good amount of space between us.
"Are you hungry? I can make breakfast," Nico offered.
"I should head home. My parents are probably wondering where I am."
"Right," Nico said and got up. "Give me two minutes and I'll drive you."
"You don't have to. I can walk."
"No way," Nico said. It felt final so I waited for him to return and went down to his car with him.
We drove in silence, listening to music and I looked out the window. Driving with Nico was so relaxing. I was really starting to enjoy it.
"I had fun last night," Nico said as he pulled up to my house.
"Me too."
I got out of the car and waved goodbye to Nico. I really did have a good time last night.
No one said anything when I walked in, as I suspected. They were too busy talking about Rachel's cheering to notice that I'd slipped in. They probably hadn't even noticed I wasn't home last night.
That should relieve me, but it doesn't. Part of me wishes they had noticed and had been worrying about where I could be, but even if they had noticed they probably wouldn't have cared. The less they have to see of the family screwup, the better.
