Cami
"Hey," I said to Nico when he picked me up in the morning. It was the only word that I could speak, everything else melted away.
"Hey," he said.
We drove to school in the silence we normally did, but this time I was fidgety, nervous. What if he regretted kissing me? What if he left? What would I do then? I at least needed Nico as a friend. If he didn't want me as anything more, I could live with that, but I still needed him in my life.
I was lost in my thoughts the whole ride to school and didn't notice we had arrived until Nico opened my door for me.
"Oh," I said and he chuckled.
Nico grabbed both of my hands, just like last night.
"I want to take you out on a date," he said.
"Really?" I asked and he chuckled.
"Yes really."
"Ok."
"Tonight?"
I agreed and Nico said he'd pick me up at seven that night. We walked hand in hand into school, but this time it felt different, more intimate, like his hand was made for me to hold.
Cami: Nico asked me out on a date!
Taryn: it's about time
Cami: what do I wear?
Taryn: something that makes you feel pretty, although I think Nico would be fine if you showed up in a trash bag
Something that makes me feel pretty. I mostly wore t-shirts and jeans, but I did have some cute clothes.
I spent the rest of the day worrying about my date with Nico. It's not that I wasn't excited, I was, I just didn't want to mess this up. I really like Nico and I've gotten used to having him in my life. I don't want to lose him.
"I'll see you soon," Nico said with a kiss on my cheek when we got to my house.
"Bye," I said.
Once I got inside, I rushed up to my room and started looking through the closet. Clothes flew across my room as I rummaged through drawers and pulled things off hangers. I took pictures as I tried on outfits and sent them to Taryn.
Cami: what do you think
Taryn: u look beautiful in all of them
Cami: not helpful
I sent the pictures to Sammy next, hoping he'd be more helpful.
Sammy: third one
Cami: ok good. that's the one I was leaning towards.
I was glad Sammy had reassured me in my decision, it made me feel more confident.
I was wearing a dress with a white lace top and a pink skirt with a jean jacket over it. I slid on a pair of wedged sandals and tied the straps around my ankle. And like always, I was wearing the butterfly necklace Nico got me. I wore it every day now.
I didn't use makeup very often so I stuck to the minimum of mascara and lipgloss. I was slightly better at doing my hair and managed to curl it without burning myself.
By the time I was finished, it was almost seven so I grabbed my bag and went downstairs to wait. I paced back and forth in front of the stairs as my nerves started to build once again. An eternity later, the doorbell rang and I almost tripped as I rushed to get the door, but of course, it was already open. Why was tonight the night my dad was home early?
