CHAPTER FOURTEEN
zapped

⊱ ──────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ──────── ⊰

SOMETIMES, JULIET REALLY regretted giving Iris a key to her apartment.

Juliet didn't have to be at the CCPD early that day, for once, she allowed herself to sleep longer. After all the normal work and the super-heroing, Juliet was completely exhausted. So she laid in her bed, completely sound asleep. Her curtains were completely shut and her ceiling fan was on, giving her the right amount of coldness without it being freezing.

"Oh, come on," a voice then said, sounding a little far away as Juliet slowly started to drift out of her deep sleep. "This is what you're doing?"

Juliet fluttered her eyes open, only to see Iris standing above her with her hands on her hips. She rolled over, facing away from Iris, because she definitely did not want to get up. Juliet heard Iris sigh, and the next thing she knew, blinding light entered the room. She groaned and shoved her face into her pillow.

"Good morning, sunshine," Iris commented.

"What are you doing here?" Juliet asked, her voice muffled from her pillow. "I was sleeping."

"Clearly." Juliet felt a dip in her bed, and she knew Iris had sat down. "You weren't answering my texts, and I was hoping we could go get some breakfast, so I just decided to . . . walk in. I mean, I do have a key."

"I gave you that key for emergencies."

"Do chocolate chip pancakes not count as an emergency?" Iris countered, and Juliet picked her head up from her pillow. "Come on, it's been ages since we've gone to a diner for breakfast. I'll even pay."

Juliet couldn't help the smile that stretched across her face and she rolled her eyes playfully. "Fine."

Iris grinned happily. Juliet got up from her bed (although a bit reluctantly — it was so comfy.) She started to get ready for the day and had just finished brushing her hair when she got a text from Joe. Juliet immediately frowned.

"Uh oh," Iris stated. "I don't like that look."

"There's been a homicide," Juliet revealed. "I'm sorry, 'Ris, but I've got to run."

"Duty calls, I guess."

"Tell me about it. I promise we'll reschedule. I'll talk to you later." Juliet grabbed her jacket and her keys. "Make sure to lock the door when you leave."
