Bite Marks

A New Start

After Chase released my hand he looked around for biters. He took in a sharp breath and turned to study me.
"Seeing how well you handle a gun and that we have already gotten to know each other as well as you can on a first meeting, how about you join me and our group?" He asked me with a friendly smile on his face. I didn't know how to respond. I knew this could be a trap and that I had to be hesitant because of what can happen, I mean I could be beat, raped, or even killed.
"Well..." I looked into his eyes and searched for something. Anything that might tell me that he had bad intentions. I heard the groan of biters in the background. Knowing I didn't have much time I made my decision.
"Alright" I agreed and he smiled and gave me a gesture to follow him silently.
Killing a few biters we headed down the streets till finally we reach a preschool guarded with high fences and a person who I assumed to be a sniper on the roof.
"Seems secure." I thought out loud observing the place and looking for possible weak spots.
"Very, haven't had a problem yet." He spoke proudly. Motioning to the people inside to open the gates.
"Let's go meet the others" he said walking through the opened fence ignoring the curious looks we received.
"Actually," I mumbled. "I'm extremely shy and don't really like people..." I continued pulling the hood up on my green hoodie.
"Didn't seem so shy when we talked before" he stated raising an eye brow at me.
"Well... I felt like I could trust you..." I said blushing lightly feeling stupid.
"You know we have a boy about your age named Jack" he teased elbowing me lightly in the side as we entered the building. At least he changed the topic.
"Guys, come out and welcome the new member Nova!" He yelled announcing our arrival. I heard footsteps from all around come towards us.
"Hey Greenie" yelled a guy that looked around 25. It made me smile that he referenced The Maze Runner.
"I'm Mike" said the same guy. I gave a short nod as more people came in and stared introducing themselves. None seemed hostile.
"I'm Carlos" said a Mexican looking dude who looked about 30.
"I'm Carly" said a girl who looked an awful lot like Chase. His daughter maybe?
"I'm Chases daughter" Carly said to clarify my question that probably was shown on my face. My friends used to say I was an open book. A lot of people continued to introduce themselves when a name caught my attention.
"I'm Jack" said a boy who looked like my age. He had brown hair and tanned skin with striking green eyes. He must be the boy Chase mentioned.
"Hi" I said shyly to everyone before lowering my head shyly to hide my blush. I am never going to remember all these names.
"Who wants to go on a run?!" Yelled Carlos suddenly making me jump. Wow, isn't he energetic.
"Jack show Nova to her room, She will bunking in room 3B" Chase said winking at me as Jack gabbed my arm and dragged me down the hall. Towards where I would be staying. What a weird day.
