Jack released my arm once we were out of sight of the others.
"So your name is Nova?" He questioned me trying to start a conversation.
"Yup" I said lamely while letting out the breath I had been holding.
"Where you from?" He asked and I stayed silent not really wanting to answer that question.
"Or...you could ignore me that's cool too" he mumbled and I let out a short laugh. He's a dork, I should thank Chase later.
"Well here we are" he said awkwardly opening a large grey door to the room labeled 3B.
"At the moment you won't have to share this room with anybody, but if we get another person prepare for a roomie. Well I guess I'll see you at dinner" he gave me a smile, and his green eyes met mine for a second before he coughed awkwardly, nodded at me and hurriedly walking away. I quickly closed the door letting out a long sigh and went over and sat in the corner pulling out the food I stuffed in my pockets. Ew, most of these had peanuts. I hate peanuts, but I guess it's better than starving. I sighed once more before taking a bite out of the bar. I didn't realize how hungry I was... Do I even remember the last time I ate? It feels like five years ago. Ugh I'm exaggerating I think I ate at least 2 days ago. Oh well might as well enjoy the feeling of food while I have it.
I took a minute to think over every girl that has happened today and ran over my introduction with this group. Could the whole 'nice guy' act be all a lie? Is that why they brought me into his room... Is it like my last group?
"Do I actually trust these people..." I wondered out loud.
"Well I hope you do" spoke a voice from the doorway. I jumped and let out a shrill shriek throwing my energy bar back in my hoodie poker.
"Oh.. Um hi." I said semi awkwardly semi embarrassed seeing as it was only Carly in the doorway.
"I just came to check on you" she said with a kind smile.
"Oh I'm fine, I was just having a snack before I took a nap. Fighting biters can be tiring" I said smiling at my lame attempt at being civilized.
"Oh sorry! I'll leave you alone. See you at dinner!" She exclaimed smiling and left closing the door behind her. I smiled slightly at the door and closed my eyes. Maybe this could work out.
I woke up to someone walking into the room, opening my eyes alertly I saw it was just Mike. "Dinner time Greenie!" He announced as I rubbed my eyes in attempt to wake up my body.
"Hope you like beans." he spoke again and cracked a smile at me, one that I couldn't help but share.
"Oh joy! Beans!" I exclaimed sarcastically and he laughed. I got up and filled him to the door.
Leading me to the dining room he sat me down beside a girl who I think was named Sarah.
"Chase should be back soon, I heard he was checking out another gas station far out to see if there was anything he could salvage" spoke someone who I couldn't remember the name of. I just decided to keep quiet not totally trusting everyone here. I listened to the chatter of the group and answered one word answers to the questions they directed towards me.
Soon enough I heard voices coming towards the dining room and in came Chase with a girl who looked my age maybe a year or so younger than me. I put my head back down and poked at my beans. I guess everyone was introducing themselves and I must have missed my chance because before I knew it Chase spoke up.
"Oh her? She's Nova but her real name is Ta-" I cut him off quickly with a cough and a glare getting strange looks from the people around the table. I stole a glance at jack who seemed to be fixated on the new girl. I sighed quietly pushing up my glances which had slipped down my face and went back to eating my beans.
