6: husband material

"Nao, yes, I am currently at the Fushiguro Household. Trouble? No, no, I'm calling you so that you can bring us some lunch. Although convenience store food are faster, I want you to buy it from Kagurazaka.

"Yes. Refuse if they are just going to reheat everything. Have the head chef personally cook for us. On top of that, buy some toys. For who? Obviously for the children. No, I'm not at the orphanage. Did I not just tell you where I am? The toys are for the Fushiguro siblings—"

"We can have toys?!" Tsumiki, who was sitting on Hyousuke's lap, exclaimed in shock.

"... toys?" The quiet Megumi, who sat on Hyousuke's other lap, parroted his sister.

The CEO beamed at them. "Yes, the both of you, if you want something, tell me. I will have your uncle Nao buy them. Pronto."

"Then, Then, can I have that astronaut suit I want?!"

"Yes, Tsumiki. What about you, Megumi?"

"Um, big doggie stuffie."

"Nao, buy an astronaut costume. Size? Buy one that can fit a three year old. And a big dog stuffed toy. Buy the biggest you can find. No, there's nothing else. I will call you if there is."

Ending the call, Hyousuke put his phone away while listening to Tsumiki and Megumi (mostly Tsumiki though) babble as they sat on his laps. His eyes drifted from them towards the door where Toji stood with a bitter look on his face.

He, Hyousuke, who had followed Toji everywhere in the past, had died many years ago. Currently, the one inside the Fushiguro house was a Hyousuke who already considered himself as Toji's husband and his children's step-parent.

And as a parent, obviously, his children needed him more than this sloppy husband of his.

Let's talk. Toji conveyed through his eyes.

In a little while. Hyousuke smiled in response.

Fushiguro Toji narrowed his eyes before rolling them in annoyance.

He waited more than a decade.

He could still wait a little more than a few fucking hours, right?

.

.

The door clicked shut as Hyousuke silently left the bedroom. Megumi and Tsumiki burned out all their energy talking all day (mostly Tsumiki babbling nonstop) and had fallen asleep.

Hyousuke decided to just wake them up when dinner arrives.

Arriving at the living room, what greeted Hyousuke was Toji sitting on the couch, legs spread open while he leaned at the back of the seat.

Hyousuke sat at the opposite of Toji, his smile ever present.

"Quit it with that damn smile," grumbled Toji. "If... If you were alive all this time, why haven't you contacted me?"

"The conflict between the clan and I was downplayed by others when it was spread to the world. Based on what Nao said, an external force came and exterminated us which was very far from the truth. Basically, a civil war erupted and I ended up making the decision of annihilating the clan down to its very root."

The ambience between them turned solemn the more Hyousuke spoke.

"I... I wanted to go back to your side but the consequences of using a forbidden technique left me in a coma," Hyousuke looked down, his lips no longer displaying his perpetual smile.

"There was no guarantee when and if I would wake up so I had ordered Nao not to let you in on anything after the letter I sent you."

Silence brewed in the living room, Toji's hot gaze burning a hole into Hyousuke's chest.

Heavy footsteps resounded in the room as Toji pushed himself off the couch, approaching Hyousuke with an unreadable emotion swirling in his eyes. An arm extended to cup Hyousuke's cheek, and Hyousuke himself leaned close to Toji's palm.

The heat from his hand thawed the loneliness inside Hyousuke's heart.

"Husband—"

Without letting him finish, Toji swooped down, picked up Hyousuke by the thighs, and held him close. Toji buried his face in the other's chest, basking in the scent he had long forgotten.

Lips curled into a smile and Hyousuke embraced his husband around the shoulders.

"I miss you." He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on the crown of Toji's head. "This time, instead of asking you to come back with me, may I stay at your house?"

Toji snorted but there was a touch of fondness behind it. "You obviously already made yourself at home like you did before, didn't you?"

"Hush, Gumi!"

The pair of childhood friends paused from making acting any more intimate with each other.

"... but nee-chan's the loud one."

"..."

"... I'm sleepy."

"Let's go back to sleep!"

A quiet click reached Toji's and Hyousuke's ears.

The two shared a glance, the ambiguous air between them gone just like that. This dissatisfied Toji and scowled miserably while Hyousuke chuckled under his breath.

"Dang brats."

"You can't call your children that way."

"Our children."

"... you missed my point."

"No, I didn't."

.

.

"AH!" Tsumiki exclaimed as she entered the dining room with Megumi following close behind her. Megumi peeked behind his sister to see what surprised her.

There, cooking near the stove, was none other than Hyousuke. He turned his head around to look at them and smile. "Good morning, Tsumiki, Megumi. Since you refuse to wake up for dinner last night, I thought it would be best if I made you a big breakfast."

A funny look formed on Tsumiki's face; she was obviously struggling about something inside her head.

Toji, who noticed the way her face contorted ugly expressions, snorted and said, "Just call him mama."

"MAMA!" Tsumiki bounced around in excitement.

"... ma, mama." Megumi whispered under his breath, the tip of ears turning red.

Hyousuke, who did not expect that, almost threw the heated pan right into Toji's face. However, he restrained himself back.

There was no need to be so violent so early in the day. It would ruin his work performance.

I can just take Tsumiki and Megumi to work with me and leave Toji behind. Hyousuke, who once refused to leave Toji's side, easily made his decision to not bring his husband to his office.
