I woke up to the feeling someone was watching me.
Rubbing my eyes slowly, I peered around to find Mei sitting next to me eyes intensely focused on me.
I jumped.
"No..just a dream" And I closed my eyes longing for more sleep even though I heard my own voice.
"Wakey, sleepy head."
I felt a hand brush past my forehead.
I opened my eyes again.
"Good morning Ko."
Mei smiled, she didn't look upset anymore.
"How are you in my house?" I stammered.
"I tried texting you last night and you didn't answer so I tried calling you because I was worried, you just disappeared" Mei told me.
"S-sorry, I was asleep." I replied, not completely truthful.
"Hey, don't apologise. Well Mrs Benson picked up and we spoke for a while, then she invited me over."
That made sense now.
Mei must know about my situation now but she seems the same as usual.
"Are you still my friend, I'm gathering you were told about why I'm here."
Mei hugged me close.
"Of course I'm still your friend, I like you for who you are not who your family is."
That lifted a weight of lies from my shoulders, I felt refreshed, it almost felt silly that I was anxious about that.
"What time is it?" I mentioned.
I had no idea, it must be quite late if I woke up to my new friend beside me.
"It's 1pm" She answered.
"But it's good you've rested."
Wow.. That was far longer than I expected, just how long was she sitting there? I'm too awkward to ask her though.
"Uh.." She waited a bit before she finished her sentence.
"Sorry for last night. I shouldn't of and I wasn't thinking clearly."
I was a bit startled.
Now this made me even more confused on how I should feel.
"Do you wanna come over to my house tomorrow for a sleepover? I'll make it up to you."
I told her she didn't have to apologise and accepted her request.
"I'm looking forward to it" I said brightly before she had to go.
"Me too, bye!"
I waved her off, a little ball of excitement fizzed inside of my stomach.
Mrs Benson joined me as I shut the door.
"Hi dear, did you sleep well?" I nodded.
"Your friend said there was a bit of trouble last night and wanted to check up on you, I hope it was alright that I answered her call for you."
"It's okay."
I wasn't agitated at her, the new year had already been brightened thanks to her actions.
"Happy new year!" I announced cheerfully.
"And to you too poppet!"
I was feeling rather hungry but I didn't want to bother anyone so I sucked it up and went upstairs to practice music.
