Mei had taken me to the college's canteen.
The air was busy, multiple smells crowded my nose.
We trailed over to get our food.
I ended up with a sandwich sitting on my tray, I was nervous but glad I didn't have to sit alone.
Mei lead me to a small table of two in the back of the room.
The chairs were an interesting shade of purple I lie to myself instead of diving into my rabbit hole of uncertainty and anxiety.
"So.." Mei began "what made you come here?" Slightly alarmed I almost knocked over my bottle but regained my cool.
"Oh, I just moved house" I answered normally.
"Nice, wanna be friends?" I nodded my head although I was secretly thrilled.
I was bullied a lot as a child and had never made a single friend, let alone a kind and pretty one.
"Your hair is really beautiful" Mei mentioned "I have never seen anyone with such fluffy white hair."
My cheeks reddened.
Mei likes my hair I thought, Mei likes my hair! I promised myself I would make an effort with it now every day.
I was about to compliment her hair too but was cut in by someone else.
"Hey! Um are you new?" This girl with mousy dyed hair stared inquisitively at me with her just as mouse like eyes.
Just from her aura I could tell she was popular.
"Yea" I replied, smiling to hide my anxiousness.
She didn't smile back but looked at both of us.
"Here" the girl passed Mei and I a card of colour "The whole year group is invited to my new years party so don't go thinking your special or anything-."
I never intended on trying to befriend this girl but my head still hung in embarrassment.
She returned my smile from earlier with a sly grin and strutted off to join her gaggle of friends.
I glanced at the invitation, coral glitter was stuck everywhere, this piece of card is as fake as her I thought to myself as I discarded it into the depths of my pocket.
Mei noticed.
"Are you going?" She questioned "Please I want you to come."
I wasn't sure if Mei was blind to how that girl treated her but I agreed anyway, If she wanted me to come there was no way I would decline.
