HAWKINS WAS NOT AN INTERESTING PLACE. It didn't have flashing monuments, or significant moments and all in all was a pretty average town to raise your kids in. At least, that's how Amelia Henderson seen it.
Amelia wasn't dumb. She knew that half of the people in Hawkins would forever stay in Hawkins but she liked to think she was apart of the few that would make it somewhere else. Maybe it was due to her driving passion of traveling and wanting to see the world that made her delusional, but she didn't care.
While she wasn't found of change, the girl felt as though moving away would be good to her.
But this was the day that everything would change for good.
Amelia was woken by the downstairs phone ringing relentlessly and a quick call from her mother telling her to answer it. She groaned, forcing herself out of bed before quickly walking down to the phone before it went off. She picked it up, rubbed her eyes and quickly placed it to her ear before uttering a groggy: "hello?"
"Amelia! I'm sorry, did I wake you?" Joyce Byers, one of the most loveliest women Amelia had met, asked in worry.
Amelia stretched a little before waving Joyce off. "What? Don't worry Joyce, I've been up for hours... is everything okay?"
Joyce hesitated. "Um, yeah I think so. Did Will stay over at yours last night?"
Will, Joyce's youngest son, was one of Amelia's younger brother's best friends. While Will would hang with Dustin, Amelia found his older brother Jonathon pretty good company as well.
Amelia furrowed her brows in worry. "I'll check for you." She quickly pressed the phone against her chest to muffle the noise as she called out for her little brother. "Dustin! Did Will come home with you?!"
"No! Why?" Was all she got back, causing a small tinge of worry to pour into her.
Instead of answering Dustin, Amelia quickly replied to Joyce. She could hear Joyce's breath hitch slightly at Amelia's answer. "I'm sorry Joyce, do you need help finding him?"
"Oh no sweetly thats fine. I'm sure he just went to school early," Joyce reassured, though Amelia could hear the worry through her voice.
"Alright well, if I see him I'll call you."
"Thanks Amelia."
The two quickly hung up and Amelia prepared herself for school, though the thought of a missing kid - one that she knew - sent a shiver down her spine.

Amelia's second-hand 1970s purple Dodge Challenger was Dustin's favourite car. He loved the old bucket of junk that his sister drove simply because of how the white leather seats remained clean and she had all his favourite albums in a pile on the floor. What he didn't appreciate was how fast Amelia took it.
"Lia! Slow down before I die!" He called out to her as she casually laid back while slightly breaking the speed limit.
She scoffed. "Dude relax, we're both kind of late and I don't need Nancy lecturing me on my attendance." She glanced at her brother to see him clutching onto his seatbelt for dear life and only then did she realise how fast she was driving.
But it was too late.
Police sirens blared in her ears as Amelia cussed under her breath before pulling in. Dustin let out a sigh of relief at the fact that they had stopped and he had lived. He then turned to Amelia and gave her a knowing glance, as if to say serves you right. She watched as officer Callahan got out of the cop car and waltzed over to her's.
