CHAPTER SIX

"MIKE THIS IS NANCY, DO YOU COPY?" Nancy called out through Will's walkie-talkie. The group had arrived at the Byers household after Jonathan told them about Will's gadget that could get them in touch with the party.

After seeing the insane display of fairy lights, lamps and a painted alphabet, Amelia decided that she had now seen everything. They had found the walkie-talkie and currently waited in Will's room as they tried to contact the Wheeler boy.

"Mike we need you to answer," she pleaded, sitting on the bed with Amelia, who was growing impatient. "This is an emergency, Mike. Do you copy?... Mike do you copy?!"

Amelia sighed as she offered to try, causing Nancy to gladly hand the gadget over. "Wheeler, this is Amelia I'm gonna need one of you to answer, over."

She then paused as she wondered why they weren't answering. "Dustin, pick up. I know you think this is some Lando Calrissian situation but its not, we can help you."

Hopper then took the walkie-talkie from her. "Listen kid, this is the chef. If you're there, pick up. We know your in trouble and we know about the girl."

"We can protect you, we can help you, but you gotta pick up," Hopper offered desperately. "Are you there? Do you copy? Over." Hopper then sighed before setting down the gadget and turning to the group. "Anybody got any other ideas?"

Then after a beat of silence, there was an answer. "Yeah, I copy. It's Mike, I'm here... we're here."

Hopper had left to the dump were the kid's were hiding while Amelia waited in the Byers household with Joyce, Jonathan and Nancy. When the kids and Hopper returned, a wave of relief rushed over Amelia as she ran out to her brother and practically crushed him into a hug. "You're okay."

He let out a deep sigh, hugging her back. "Yeah, I'm okay."

The party then went inside and managed to explain the story of the acrobat and the flea and how it related to Will, Barb, the monster and the upside down. They explained how they found a gate through the upside down in Hawkins' Lab and how it changed the directions of the compass needle.

"Wait, theres only a gate in the lab?" Amelia asked in confusion as her, Jonathan and Nancy glanced at each other.

"That's what we think... why?" Mike asked her, causing all the kids to turn to the three teenagers.

Amelia shook her head. "Just wondering."

Joyce then spoke up hopefully. "Is there anyway that you could... that you could reach will and talk to him in this-"

"The upside down," Eleven clarified before she nodded.

Nancy then turned to the girl. "And my friend Barbara, can you find her too?"

They all stood around Eleven at the dining room table, who sat in front of Will's walkie-talkie and the photo of Barb Jonathan took. The static of the gadget was the only thing that could be heard as they watched the girl intently.

The lights then began to flicker before Eleven opened her eyes, a sad expression appearing on her face as she turned to Joyce. "I'm sorry."

"W-what?" Joyce panicked, her face dropping. "What's wrong- what happened?"

Eleven's voice broke slightly. "I can't find them."

Joyce held back her tears as Jonathan gripped her hand tightly. Amelia's face dropped as she turned to Nancy and held her hand comfortingly. After a minute of zoning out, she listened back into the boys who where talking about Eleven's powers.
