CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

"LETS GO TIGERS, LETS GO!" The quicker the school year ended, then quicker Amelia Henderson could stop attending these ridiculous basketball games. The girl was sick of cheering for a bunch of assholes (except for Lucas) bouncing a ball full of air and she was started to lose her pep.

She cheered as she watched the team prepare themselves for the game, noticing Steve arrive out of the corner of her eye. He spotted her and gave her a big wave as he took his seat near the top of the bleachers and Amelia was getting deja vu.

"Everyone now please rise for our national anthem!" The school's principal called out, causing everyone to stand up. "Singing for us tonight, we have a very special guest. All the way from Nashville, our very own... Tammy Thompson!"

As the crowd cheered for the high school graduate, Amelia's jaw dropped slightly before she turned to look at Robin and Steve who were looking back at her with the same expression.

She slowly clapped for the girl, refraining herself from laughing as the girl took centre stage. When Tammy started singing, Amelia turned to Robin and mouthed "Muppet", causing Robin to shake her head in laughter.

Amelia held back a laugh as she covered her face with her pom-poms to hide her smirk. Steve put his head down to avoid laughing and took note of Amelia's shaking form in the front row. The girl hoped the singing would end soon and once it did, the game began.

For a while it was neck and neck, teams both scoring one after the other and Amelia secretly hoped the other team would win so she could stop cheering. It grew intense when team players grew injured and it wasn't long before Lucas was put on. Amelia smiled as she cheered for her friend, shaking her pom-poms from beside Chrissy.

When Jason called a time-out, they all watched as both teams huddled up as the band began playing the drums dramatically. The games began once more and Jason shot his shot, but tragically missed.

The ball landed in the middle of a crowd, before Lucas managed to pry it out and back up. The boy aimed and threw the ball at the net, and everything felt like slow motion. Amelia watched as the ball went flying over everyone, spinning around the edges of the hoop before landing directly in without a second to spare.

The crowd erupted and so did Amelia as she, the rest of the cheerleaders and the basketball team all surrounded Lucas and lifting him up on their shoulders. They all chanted the boys name as he looked around in glee.

Everyone ran out of the gym hall, happy for the win and it seemed Lucas was rightfully the centre of attention after the underdog shot the winning shot.

When Amelia finally seen Lucas' team had stopped crowding him, she ran up to him with a smile. "Dude!"

He turned to her, slightly surprised to see her but also grinning as he stuck his arms out. "Dude!"

The girl laughed as she ran over into the boys arms for a tight victory hug. She yelped when Lucas lifted her off the ground slightly from the excitement and adrenaline.

When he pulled away, Amelia couldn't help but mirror his big grin. "Did you see me? I got the ball and in my head I was like 'shoot!' and then everyone was like 'huh!' and then it went in and everyone was cheering!"

"Yeah I was there," She commented, watching as he explained what the had both just witness with sound effects and visuals all for her reliving.

When Patrick approached the two, he turned to the excited boy and motioned to his car. "Lucas, you coming?"
