Your POV

I breathed in the cool, evening air. I was sitting, leaning on a big and beautiful oak tree. It gave me inspiration. I was currently sketching of what I thought the oak tree looked like. I took the time to gaze upon all its features, and then I started sketching of what I remembered about it.

I looked up from my sketch book to think about other features my sketch could have. Fragile, thin branches... But beautiful, lush and green leaves making up for it. Strong roots extending further underground than the eye could see. What else?

My gaze travelled over to my left in thought and locked onto a girl in the distance. She had short wavy hair, and I could see her hazel eyes shimmering under the sunlight behind her green glasses. She was asking a tall man with a huge hat a question, but the man shrugged and shook his head.

It was odd how I could interpret the girl's eye colour from here. My eyes widened at the thought and I looked back down at my sketch. Maybe this tree needed a reflection of the sun to be complete.

Just as I was thinking of what angle the sun needed to shine on the tree, I heard a tiny voice from behind. "Aw guys, she stopped drawing..."

I jumped, unprepared for someone to be behind me. Before I could even turn around, I heard a whole group of other voices groan in unison. "Awwww..."

I looked behind me and my eyes grew wide. Practically every child I've seen in this village was staring at me behind the oak tree with curious eyes. How did I not notice them back there? I could've sworn none of them were here when I had arrived.

"What's going on here?" I turned my head again. It was the girl I was looking at before. Was I just deaf? I didn't hear her coming, either.

"We were all watching her draw this big tree behind us." A little girl with braided pigtails explained.

I looked up at the girl with glasses again. I knew who she was. She was part of a pretty popular family in this town, whose family members were blessed with magical gifts that help the village grow and prosper. I know that she's around my age, and I know that her cousin's gift ceremony was dangerously close, and-

I looked down beside me to a kid with dark skin and short curly hair. And, I know that her cousin is right beside me.

I recognized Antonio in a different way. I only met him a couple of months ago, but he's already grown on me. He came to me when I was alone in the town drawing. It was getting dark so I was heading home when I caught sight of him.

He seemed shy, and I saw him looking around as if he was lost. Turns out he was, and I walked him back to his home just after the sun set. A girl with long, dark hair gasped when she saw him. She thanked me for bringing him home, going on about how she'd been looking for him for a while. She told me to come to her if I ever needed crops grown...or something like that anyway. I remember getting a splitting headache after I got Antonio home so I wasn't really listening.

Ever since, he's found me in the town or at the park or in the field drawing and he's always kept me company. I've noticed he especially likes it when I sketch animals.

I snapped out of my little flashback and looked up to see the girl noticed Antonio at my side. "Oh, there you are Antonio! Tia wanted me to tell you she wants to do a fitting. I can walk you back if you want."

Antonio nodded, got up and walked to Mirabel's side. The other kids noticed this, and took this as their cue to question Mirabel while they still got the chance.
