"Finally, what were you doing in there?" The man in the doorway said when Max opened the door.

Max let a hand go through his hair and scratched his neck lightly with his eyes closed. He released a breath as he thought about what to say.

"Sleep." He only answered. Bradley, his personal trainer moved past him and invited himself in Max's hotelroom.

Max wanted to hold him back from coming inside but he was too late. The man was already standing inside the messy hotelroom.

The bedsheets were on the floor, the drawers of the nightstand were wide open and Max's clothes were spread across the room. Luckily the bathroom door was shut.

"What happened here?" Bradley asked a little flabbergasted by the sight.

Max groaned again, feeling nervous, the adrenaline of the disagreement with Charles only minutes before was still flowing through his blood.

"Uhmm..." Max hesitated to speak and closed his eyes. While having his eyes closed he heard Bradley move across the room.

When he opened his eyes Bradley had his hand around the handle of the bathroom.

"No, no, no. Stop!" Max said somewhat louder than he wanted to and rushed to where Bradley was standing. He pulled Bradley's hand away from the handle.

"Max, you know what we agreed on, no distractions in race week." Bradley said a bit playful, suspecting what, or more who, Max was hiding inside the bathroom.

Max could feel himself shaking.

Fuck, how am I gonna get out of this.

"And on top of that Max, a gentleman doesn't lock women in their bathroom." He said as his hand reached to the handle again.

"Don't open it." Max tried again. Not being able to say or do more because the nerves are taking over.

"Come on, she can't be that ugly." His trainer joked again and he pulled open the door.

Charles had listened to the entire conversation on the other side of the door. His stomach had dropped, then the door opened.

Bradley's mouth slightly fell open, creating a barely hearable "oh". Charles stood there, his right hand held a tight grip around his left upper arm, shielding himself in a way.

"I told you to not fucking open it." Max said softly as he turned away from the two men staring at each other in shock.

Then Bradley turned around. Back to the door leading to the hallway.

"I hope you know what you are doing. 15 minutes downstairs." Was all he said and then disappeared out of the room. Max back was still facing Charles.

"Come here." Max said and he turned back to the monegasque.

Charles stepped towards Max, not knowing if he was going to get a hug or a hit. Max pulled Charles by his arm to make him come closer then he wrapped his arms tightly around him.

"I am sorry," Max started, mumbling in Charles' hair. "I.. I... we...." Max was struggling to find words.

"I know Maxy." Charles said comforting but also knowing that this was the beginning of something with an end.

The room filled with feelings that left a bittersweet aftertaste in both of their mouths.

"Charlie," Max mumbled again. Now his eyes were looking into Charles'. "We are going to hurt ourselves."

"I know Max." Charles said again.

"I don't want to lose this, I don't want to lose you." Max said now finally finding words.

"Max don't speak." Charles whispered. "I know, believe me." Charles placed his hands on both sides of Max's face.

"Charles, we need to do this together, remember."

"Yes" Charles whispered before freeing himself from Max's touch.

"I love you Charles." Max said meaningful. Charles looked at Max. Charles had never seen Max like this. So peaceful, harmless, and focussed at the same time. Like he needed Charles to know it now. As if he would never get an other chance to say it. He looked deep into Charles' eyes, finding everything he ever wanted in them.

Charles felt a shiver go down his spine. He had never loved anyone more intensely than he loved Max. He had never wanted to say those three words, but he couldn't. A lump in his throat blocked all words.

"Charles," Max let his hand go softly through the brown hair. "I love you, I know it is scary, I know it is not what we wanted, and I know it is the most difficult thing we will ever experience, but I love you, and I can't stop loving you." Max carefully said, not wanting to frighten Charles more than he already was.

"Remember the first time we kissed?" Max continued, in order to make Charles somewhat more relaxed. A small smile formed on Charles' face, he nodded lightly.

"I have never been so scared in my life." Max continued. "But I needed to kiss you, I just needed you to kiss me. I am sure you felt it too, the need, the pull, the longing. I have loved you since that kiss."

Finally Charles found words. "You were not gay, remember?" Charles chuckled a bit awkwardly, mostly because of the insecurity that followed.

Max laughed a bit, and lightly tapped Charles nose.

"As a matter of fact, I am not." Max playfully defended his sexuality. He had discovered something about himself the past few weeks. Charles looked up at Max wanting to know more.

"I guess I have never been straight either." Max started, Charles hummed to let him know he was listening.

"I just never knew, or wanted to know that part of me. The part of me that is the most real. I don't care about the gender you have. If you would have been a woman I would have fallen for you equally hard." Max explained. "But I love your dick too." Max said a bit blunt now.

Charles laughed, finally feeling more relaxed.

"I love your dick too Max." He laughed with a flirty undertone.

Max grabbed Charles' face. "Only my dick?" He asked playfully but hinting at seriousness.

"No, I also love your ass and abs and you lips and your face and the way you kiss." Charles teased. "And I love you." He continued.

"I love the way you bite your lip when you are happy, how you bounce on your feet when you are excited about something, how you talk with a tiny lisp, how you look while you are asleep, the way you always eat the same thing of a menu and the way you called me 23 times only to not remember a single thing." Charles made sure to emphasise every tiny detail.

Max blushed and placed his lips softly on Charles', whom deepened the kiss, before pulling away.

"We do need to stop before this escalates." He said pointing down at their crotches, that were touching through the denim of Charles' jeans and the cotton of Max's underwear.

Max closed his eyes and released a breath as he let his head rest on Charles' shoulder.

Then he placed a kiss on Charles' cheek and stepped back.

"Okay, goodluck today. I love you." Max said.

"I love you." Charles said loudly and walked out of the room for the second time that day. He took the elevator to the lobby, suddenly not panicking about asking a new keycard anymore.

Max loves him and how unfortunate the situation was seemed like an unimportant struggle, because he loves Max too and no one can change that.
