'Wow' — that was the first word that came to my mind after opening my eyes.
It was green, left and right. There was a riverbank with water clear as crystal. The only thing I could hear was the sound of the water moving, the fountain pouring.
Where am I?
It looked like an oasis — it was quiet, bright, and it brought forth a sense of comfort. It was sunny, but it wasn't hot. It wasn't windy, but I wasn't sweating. There were no signs of other life.
Am I dead? Is this heaven?
"Sera. Welcome." A loud, endearing voice spoke.
"Where are you? Who are you? Where am I?" I replied, turning to look for the source of the voice.
"That's a lot of questions at once, isn't it?" A figure appeared from the grass fields, making his way towards me.
"I am what a higher being. What you humans call a deity, a god even. You are in the middle space between the living and the dead, where the gods reside." He continued.
I squinted my eyes, trying to look at this figure. All I could see was white. He was bright, blinding.
"I heard your wish. That is why you are here. You said you didn't want to die yet, that you had too many regrets, too much you haven't done."
The fall — I recalled falling down a bridge into water.
"Sera, you have six years, to prove yourself to me. Do not repeat the same mistakes. Live life to the fullest."
"I'm sending you to a different universe. You might find it somewhat familiar. But it is not your old world.
"If you are at the same low point in six years, this is over. But if you succeed, you will be permitted to stay here."
"Am I in an isekai anime?" I asked.
Do I get special powers like the protagonists in animes..?
"Why are you even helping me?"
I could feel the ground shaking a little, as he laughed.
"No, you do not get any special powers — however, I will provide you with as much money as you need for six years. It's up to yourself to stay afloat without my help after that. That is, if you succeed."
"As for why I'm helping you... It's because you used your last 100 yen to feed my cat."
Your cat?
That fluffy white cat belonged to this deity?
"This is your chance, to restart. Good luck, and farewell child."
I opened my eyes and examined my surroundings, I was definitely not in my own room. The room was simple, yet elegant and modern. There was no one around me.
Glancing down, I then understood why I was starting to feel so hot. I was wrapped in two layers of blankets. I pushed it off to the side and stood up from the bed.
A bright blue post-it note stuck out on the bedside table. I took a few steps closer to take a look at it.
"Stranger-san,
I decided to write this note just in case you wake up while I am at school. You've been asleep for a day now, at least that's what the doctor said it was.
Feel free to help yourself to anything in the kitchen. I will be back in the evening."
This person has really neat handwriting... Why didn't they leave a name!
"Meow"
I turned my head towards the window, eyes landing on the same fluffy white cat, the one that belonged to the deity?
"You're up, follow me." the white cat spoke.
Wait, it SPOKE?
