Shortly after my thirty first birthday, I was offered a job at a charter school right outside of the city. I was hesitant on accepting it, only because it would mean this is permanent. I was scared of losing everything.

I started working there in mid August, and I fell in love with the job. I always loved kids, and this was the ultimate dream for me.

The last few months had been a little difficult for Derek and I. But we had worked through most of our issues together, and I loved him more now than I ever had.

A few nights ago, he had asked me to marry him, and I said yes. I never expected to get remarried, but Derek is the only man I could see myself marrying.

Our wedding date was set for the spring of the next year, it was going to be beautiful. Just like Nick and my wedding was supposed to be. I didn't wear his wedding right anymore, I had stopped wearing it years ago. I kept it on my nightstand, and Derek had even bought a special box for it. He understood that getting rid of the ring would've killed me, so instead he supported me by getting something to display it in.

I look down at my engagement ring as I sit at my desk in my classroom, shortly before Halloween. The band was gold with small emeralds embedded in the bad. It seemed to be the opposite of the one Nick had gotten me. Both beautiful, yet so different.

My phone begins to ring, and I look down at the caller ID, smiling when I see Derek's name on my screen.

"Malaki? Something a wrong, I-I'm going to the hospital." My heart drops and I quickly leave my classroom. I call in for a sub and head to the hospital.

Not again, please not Derek too.
