Chapter 3 - No Call

Ashton waits for that call.

A Day.

Two Days.

Three Days.

A Week.

But it never comes.

Somehow he hoped Calum would be different.

Calum would maybe actually like him.

But maybe he was still that rich spoiled kid deep down inside.

Not caring for some stupid disney park employee.

A month goes by and Ashton starts to get back into his usual routine and starts to forget about Calum.

It's a rainy day, when he's on his way back from work.

It sucked. The park was nearly empty and he had nothing to do all day.

He walked down the streets from his bus stop, when he heard it.

"Please, no. I don't have any money, please. I promise."

He heard yelling and punching and a lot of ugly noises.

His first instinct was to run away. But he couldn't. He just couldn't.

He turned his head into the dark allley, trying not to be seen.

It was 4 big guys around one guy on the floor.

He could never take them.

What are big guys afraid of?

The police. Of course. But he couldn't wait. Not until they come.

The guys would've beat the boy to death by then.

He has a sudden sudden inspiration and turns on his phone.

He googles Police car sound and plays it.

He just hopes his phone speakers are loud and convincing enough.

They must be. Because all for guys turn around in panic, leave the guy on the floor alone and run the other way.

Ashton leaves the sound on for another minute, just for good measure.

He crouches nexto the guy. And stops the sound.

He turns him over, so he can see his face.

Calum.

Ashton stares at him in shock.

His face is scarred and bloody, but it's definitely him.

Calum eyes start to drift off, but Ashton allows himself no moment of panic.

He scoops him up.

Mumbling something about, way heavier than his sister. And carrys him back to his flat.

Maybe it's not the best thing to do.

But he just doesn't know how to handle the situation any other. Once they arrive he calls the ambulance.

Calum wakes up in a bed he doesn't know.

His first instinct is, shit they got me.

He turns his head and try to search his surroundings.

Curly is sleeping on a chair in the corner.

And than it comes back to him. Continues streams of „don't you leave me now, stay awake, please, don't go".

So maybe they didn't.

The whole room is white. A Hospital.

Great.

He tries to mumble, tries to make a sound.

But Curly doesn't hear him.

He makes a move that hurts much more than it should and one of the machines starts beeping.

Curly jumps up, looking highly confused and alerted at the same time.

He looks around in panic.

Sleep still evident in his eyes.

His eyes finally settle on Calum, who looks at him.

"You okay? Should I call the nurse? Or your Mum?"

Calum doesn't question why Ashton doesn't ask "Your parents", but his mum in particular.

Maybe he doesn't know. Maybe he does know. Maybe it was just a slip up.

Or maybe he just said it, because mums are usually the ones who are the most concerned.

"I couldn't find "MUM" in your contacts, so I didn't call anyone yet. I'm sorry."

Calum smiled softly. This boy was to cute.

"Joy Koa" he presses out.

Ashton nods and pulls Calums phone out his jeans pocket.

Calum doesn't question why it's there, but he gives Ashton a strange look.

But he just shrugs. "For safekeeping."

It rings and Ashton obviously tries to tell Joy what happened, but Calum is too exhausted to listen.

"She's coming."

Ashton puts the phone down, nexto Calum's hand.

Calum pretends that he doesn't feel the sparks, that Ashton gentle accidental touch leaves behind.

And Ashton stays right there. Nexto Calums bed, until Joy comes running in.

Ashton excuses himself and turns towards the door.

But Calum doesn't want that.

"Thanks." He presses out. Ashton stops in the doorway and turns around. "Always." He mumbles. And before he can turn around again Calum says "I'll call you."

Ashton smile drops and he just nods.

"Of course."

And then he's out the door.
