We were all looking forward to Halloween- finally, we would be able to go out at night off campus.
Maxwell was going to come up with Augustus and Eric. He told me that Saul was going to be going to a party with a girl he met on campus- and wanted to sleep with. That sounded like Saul.
Samantha seemed very excited about Maxwell. She had a great weekend with him when she went to visit him at University, and they were basically dating now.
Juliette wasn't sure if she was going to come with us to go out. She was still very hesitant after what happened- and I understood.
Melina was showing me more and more interest. And I definitely liked her. She was great to talk to...and the time she went down on me proved she knew what she was doing.
But I couldn't get someone off of my mind.
Blaze.
I hated myself for it- but I wanted to figure her out. I knew she hated me. And that I would probably never get the chance. But I wanted to know what was going on with her. Why she was troubled. Why she was always writing in that notebook.
I couldn't deny my attraction to her as well. It always had been there- even when we were younger.
But at the same time- I hated her. Like she hated me. Blaze had an attitude. She was rude. She was unpleasant. And she blamed me for my family's wrongdoings when I had nothing to do with it. I didn't even know anything about it.
The day before Halloween, I spoke to my mother and father. They called me on the phone in the commons room.
"Maxwell told us he is coming to Raya tomorrow to visit you." my mother said- her tone disinterested.
"Yes, he is. With a couple of his friends." I said.
"Very nice." she responded.
"Natasha, honey. Your mother and I wanted to tell you- this was the main reason for us calling you- that you will have to stay on campus for Thanksgiving. We have an important seminar to attend." my father said.
I felt my heart sink. Of course.
"Okay." I said, "Lots of students stay on campus. It's fine."
"Good, good." my father said, dismissively.
"Well, have fun tonight with your brother and friends." my mother said, "Talk soon."
"Yes, talk soon." my father said, and before I could even respond, they hung up.
My chest felt heavy when I hung up the phone. They truly did not care. I was expected to have to stay on campus during the Thanksgiving holiday- but part of me wanted to come home.
I left the conversation feeling crushed, even though I was trying to not feel that way.
It was 7 PM- most of the girls were gone from the room. Samantha, Violetta, and Juliette were studying together. They had invited me- but my brain couldn't handle any more work today.
I felt myself tearing up uncontrollably as I hurried back to the room. I just hoped no one was there.
I was in luck. No one was.
I sat down on my bed, head in my hands. I couldn't help but cry.
I didn't hear anyone come into the room, I was distracted by my sobs.
But I heard Blaze's voice say, "Natasha?"
Her voice sounded somewhat gentle. I wasn't used to that.
