song: cane shuga by glass animals.
"I cant believe you right now! what the hell were you doing looking in the woods for a dead body?!" Callie yelled as august sat in on of the dining chairs in front of both her parents, she couldn't look up she knew if she did she'd cry an she didn't want to cry because no matter how disturbing that night was it was probably the most fun she's had in a while and it was without any of her sisters.
"its these new friends of yours they are bad influences' I'm telling you, I'm glad you made friends august I am but I just wish they weren't ones that go dead body hunting through the woods." her dad spoke up from besides her mother, his voice wasn't as loud as her's but you could tell he was trying to stay as calm as possible.
"you say that like we've made it a regular thing." august said lifting her head up from where she was looking down avoiding all eye contact. "which we haven't by the way never again."she quickly added on the end trying to ensure them this is a one time incident but that Cleary didn't change the situation, they looked concerned more than anything, they had worry in their eyes.
"the point is we need to protect you and we cant do that if you go looking for dead bodies." Callie said her voice tuning down from the yell she had on earlier she seemed scared.
"if it helps it was only half a body." august said trying to lighten the mood with a bit of sarcastic dark humour. her joke made no change to their attitudes I suppose dark humour isn't for everyone. "look this will never happen again and you know why? because there shouldn't be any more deaths..."august assured them making sure that they felt more comfortable knowing that she was home and safe. "and it was cold so I don't really want too."she mumbled slowly getting out her chair.
"j-just be careful. please." Callie said grabbing august's wrist before she could walk away, she looked serious, concerned even, august had never really seen her like this, she had always been so cheerful and bubbly this was completely different.
"I will." august said with a fake smile hiding how weirded out she was by that whole interaction once her mother let go she walked off until she felt she was out of sight now she luckily wasn't grounded and they didn't ban her from hanging out with any of her friends.
"what the hell is wrong with you?!" said a whisper shouting voice pulling august by the arm into a bedroom. "I was supposed to be on watch make sure you are okay make sure may is okay but now you disappear into thin air and don't even leave note or a text even." June yelled closing her bedroom door after pulling august through the doorway.
"I did too leave a note I stuck it on the fridge." august said as she remembered exactly how June reacted last time she went out without leaving a note, in fairness it was a rare occurrence that August ever left the house alone.
"you wrote "gone out dash august." thats not a note august thats three words and one bit of punctuation, a note would tell me where you went and who with!" June yelled picking up a slightly crumpled up piece if paper from a chest of draws behind where august was stood handing it to august, it was the 'note' she left.
