Athena POV:
That night I'm restless. With tomorrow being the day we get our training scores and the day we have our individual evaluation. I need at least a nine. A career with anything lower than a nine is disgraceful. I toss and turn till 3:00 in the morning, when I get up and pace the floor. The lush carpet tickles my feet. After 30 minutes of passing my room, I slam my fist against the wall and grunt in aggravation. My hands are calloused and my knuckles are bleeding. I walk to the bathroom and rinse the fresh blood from my hands. Afterwards, I decided I can't be stuck in here for longer so I walk out my door and towards the living room. I don't realise he's there until I'm standing right behind him.
"Oh," I exclaim, almost running head on into him.
"Hey," He says, looking up at me.
"Hey," I grimace.
"Couldn't sleep?" He asks.
"Of course I couldn't sleep!" I say aggravatedly, sitting down on the couch beside him.
"Same," He nods slightly. "How come you couldn't sleep?"
"I can't stop thinking about training scores and making a good impression," I tell him.
"But you've already made a great impression! A badass impression!" he smiles. I roll my eyes at him.
"Ya right. What about you? Why can't you sleep?" I ask him.
"Can't stop thinking about strangling that flirt of a person Felix," He laughs.
"Oh really? Why is that?" I ask.
"I don't know! I just really don't like him! He just bothers me!" he exclaims.
"You know who annoys me?" I ask him. He shakes his head.
"Who? Me?" He smirks.
"Well yes, but... It's Lillian! She's too kind! And her voice is so squeaky! And she's always talking about her hair!" I exclaim dramatically.
"Ok then," Wade smiles. I notice how blue his eyes are at this moment. A blush creeps onto my cheeks and I suddenly feel very uncomfortable.
"I'm going to go," I say. "Goodnight." And with that, I get up and walk back to my room. The clock on my wall reads 4:07am. I crawl back into bed and will myself to fall back asleep.
A buzzing sounds me awake. I roll over and look at my clock. 7:30am. I hop out of bed and dress in the same training outfit as yesterday. Afterwards, I make my way down to the dinning hall to find Enobaria, Brutus, and Masill. Hmm no Wade? We eat in silence as Masill rambles on about how amazing Lillian's style sense is for a District girl. After what seems like forever, Avoxes take our plates away and we head to the lounge area to talk about training strategies. Wade is already there waiting. I sit down across from him and tune out Enobaria's words to just concentrate on my own ideas.
"Athena? Are you even listening?" Enobaria's voice trails into my thoughts.
"Hm? Oh, yeah, I am," I answer, sitting up straighter.
"I hope you were because we're going now," She looks at me with careful eyes. I just shrug and get up. We walk towards the elevator and board it in silence. The doors slide shut and we slide down the levels of the tribute building. Enobaria and Brutus say their goodbyes as we exit the elevator. I see Felix and Lillian first, so we walk over to them. Lillian greets me with a hug, which I don't return. And Felix greets me with a smug smirk, Which if I had the option, I would chop right off his pretty little face. God that boy has a talent for getting on my nerves. We talk for a while then Lillian noticias something. She excuses herself to go see it. She taps me on the shoulder.
"Oh my god! What?" I hiss.
"This is Oakley!" She chirps. I roll my eyes and turn back to Felix and Wade.
"Relax Athena." Felix says, laying a hand on my shoulder.
"Butt out!" I growl.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed, ah?" Felix smirks. I glare at him then swiftly turn and walk away. I don't really have anywhere to go, so I head to the refreshments table. After I grab juice for myself, I realise Wade will want some, because it's his favourite. I grab one more carton then head back for our table. I sit down next to the girl from 7–Oakley I think–then slide the juice to Wade. He looks confused at first, then a pleased look crosses his face. I eat the rest of my meal in silence. After we eat, Felix gets called from his private training. We all wish him good luck–except for me–then he disappears off. After 30 minutes, Lillian gets called out. I do actually wish Lillian good luck this time, because I know she will need it. After another 30 minutes, Wade gets called.
"Get a good score will ya? So we don't have to kick you from the careers," I smirk.
"Can't make any promises," He smirks back. Oakley and Hudson chat for 30 minutes but I'm left on my own. I find pleasure in fiddling with the plastic knife at the table.
"Athena Ruckle," A computer voice calls out for me. I jump up eagerly.
"I would wish you good luck, but I bet you probably wouldn't like that," Oakley smiles.
"I bet you're right," I smile back, then continue my walk towards the large doors.
