The pitter patter of small feet is heard as they run against the hardwood floor. Sun shines through the bay window, giving the house a sheen of a golden hour filter. Peppers and onions sizzle in the pan creating an aroma through the kitchen.
I try my best to finish chopping ingredients as I imagine the chunky legs that round the kitchen counter. Just as I clear the cutting board, a small stubby hand hits my hip.
I look down at my two year old. His long, black chunky curls that reach his shoulders. Sunkissed skin, chubby circular face, long eyelashes and striking eyes. One hazel brown and the other golden brown. A pout graces his features making him look just like his mama
Juno Ezekiel Moretti, Junie as a nickname, stands before me looking as irritated as ever. I stifle a laugh because Erin's traits are most prominent right now
"Junie, what I tell you about being near the stove?"
"But you didn't wait"
He folds his arms across his chest with the dinosaur toy hanging from his hand
"I know but you took too long and it's lunch time."
I had the day off. That meant it was family day. Junie and I would spend the morning walking the trail while Erin slept in. Then it was dinosaurs, pillow forts, food and whatever else we could think of. However things have been calmer lately due to Erin being 7 months pregnant with our daughter, Jianna.
Junie throws his head back and huffs. I put the stove on low to let the vegetables simmer
"You have an attitude?"
He shakes his head, curls smacking him in the face
"I think you do"
I dramatically plant my feet on the floor. I lean over and arch up my back. I let my arms hang like claws. Junie cheeses up at me
"Uh oh"
"Uh oh is right. ROARRRRRRRR"
Junie takes off, running out the kitchen and into the living room. I stomp behind him, making dinosaur noises before hoisting him and twirling him around. His high pitch giggle is music to my ears and munch on his cheek
"Noooo"
"You have an attitude?"
"No Sir"
Junie tries to squeeze me to stop my munching and lays his head right on top of the tattoo of his moms name.
I gently slam him on the couch and watch as he lays there in a fit of giggles.
"Wanna help me make lunch?"
He nods and runs back into the kitchen. I sit him on the counter in front of the spice cabinet. This what we do when I help teach him how to read. He's a very smart boy
He hands me spices and helps with the sides for our fajita spread. We place everything on a giant tray and head to the lounge where Erin lay.
"Mommy. Mommy. We made lunch"
Junie hops on the couch and kisses Erin's stomach and then her cheek. He nuzzles his face in hers causing her to laugh.
Juno's a momma's boy. Her little protector. So much so that he tries to push me away sometimes
Little cockblocker
"Did you now?"
I place the tray on the table as Junie nods.
"I did the cheese, lettuce and spices"
"Good job. It looks great"
I place a kiss on my wife's forehead before making Juno's plate. I sit him at his little table and Erin makes ours
"Babe, I was gonna do that"
"But you made the food"
"Because your feet are swollen"
"Shhhhhh"
Erin hands me my plate and sits on the couch with me in tow
"What movie are we watching?"
Erin deeps her voice
"Batman"
"Nooooo. Let's watch Ironman"
"You always wanna watch Ironman"
"He reminds me of mommy"
"You're saying mommy's like Ironman"
Juno shakes his head
"Mommy's cooler"
"I think so too"
Once Erin realized Juno could comprehend what she is, she told him. She never wants to keep it a secret from our children and I agree
I think back to that night in Italy. The night she showed up at my bedroom door after missing for damn near two weeks. The scientist she never killed, Robert. The one that helped her free her mods from Klaus. She had him on standby just in case her mechanics went bad. Who would've thought shit would go else where
Nothing went as planned. She didn't account for De Luca having the poison. My dad wasn't clued in and I wasn't supposed to be there but she found a way. She always does
She wasn't completely healed but that didn't stop us from showing each other how we couldn't live without one another. After a month, we took the money and moved to Maldives for about a year. Then things calmed down and we moved to Bellaton. Which is right outside of Pawndale. She didn't want to be too far from family and I got my job back.
How?
Schroeder died from illness. The medical center burning was an accident. Klaus and staff were slaughtered from his experiments going wrong. Genevieve was killed by another addict and David is still "missing"
What can I say? Money talks
A few months later Juno was conceived and it's been smooth sailing ever since
I trace the tattoo of my name on Erin's thigh, making her shiver. She slaps my hand away
"Stop. That's how I got pregnant"
I lick the sour cream from the corner of her mouth and she moans quietly
"Coby. Our child is right there"
I look over to see Juno engrossed in the movie while chewing on a shrimp. Kiss on her stomach and feel a little punch against my head. Jianna is definitely a daddy's girl.
Erin watches me with a smile on her face
"I love you"
"I love you too, Cherry. So damn much"
I pull myself up to give Erin a kiss. Apparently I got carried away because I feel a small hand pushing against my forehead
Juno pushes his body between us and hugs on Erin
"My mommy"
"She was mine first"
"No"
"Look here little boy"
I tackle Juno to the couch with Erin laughing. I love that lately there's been nothing but happy moments between us. We've been through a lot. Our journey was tough but I'm happy it brought us here
Life is good
