[Y/N]

Our farewells with my Tio Diego weren't at all that emotional and heartbreaking since I trust in his success. I believe in him and as much as it hurts to be apart after only knowing him briefly, I know we'll meet again. By that time, I'll already  be stronger and better suited to protect everyone.

All eyes were on me as I readied myself to cast the protection spell Abuelo taught me. I took deep breaths to calm my nerves. However, my body burned as I felt his hazel eyes. God damn it, Camilo!

I turned to him and sure enough, he was gawking at me like I was a piece of cake. The nerves. I swiftly waved my hand and a wet rag slapped onto his face causing him to yelp and fall. Now, I was finally able to focus. Not that there was anything wrong with him looking at me like that. I kind of like- WAIT! NO! I HATE IT!

With a shake of my head, I threw all my thoughts out and forced myself to focus. As I was taught, I focused on the glimmer of power within me and willed it to grow. Willed it to protect Encanto. A surge of energy rushed from my body and I opened my eyes yelling out, "CÚPULA DE PROTECCIÓN!"

A brilliant f/c coloured light exploded from my hand and circled Encanto. A huge glass-like dome covered the whole haven. With Encanto being so big, it took all my energy to complete the spell. I could feel it stretching every fiber in my body making me groan from the pain.

The dome formation slowed and almost stopped halfway as I was losing my strength to go on. Warm liquid trickled down my face but I wouldn't stop even as the light faltered and began flickering.

Just before I lost the link to the light, I felt arms wrapped around me from behind. "YOU CAN DO IT Y/N! I'LL HOLD YOU UP!" Camilo shouted from behind me. A new wave of power coursing through me from the touch and my eyes turned f/c. The pain in my skin subsided, transforming into a warm, calmer sensation.

The beam of light from my hand became bigger and stronger. The dome formation accelerated and finished within seconds. thunder roared around us and the dome faded from sight as if nothing happened just mere moments ago.

No one said anything as they stared at the sky. Some were ridden with amazement while some with fear and hatred. Murmurs eventually filled the air replacing the silence. They probably want an explanation. I thought to myself and was about to move but felt heavy with Camilo's arms still around me.

I turned to him to see that annoying grin on his face. I was so cute and I wanted nothing more than just to smile back but the memories of that night haunt me making me angry at him. Without holding back, I elbowed him causing him to let me go and fell to his knees holding his stomach. I left him there and went to stand in front of the people.

"People of Encanto," I called out and received all their attention. "My Abuelo, the founder of Encanto, Alvaro L/n, taught me this spell as a way to hopefully protect us from the evil that is making its way here," I said as confident as I could but my hands were trembling.

"How do we know that this isn't just a scheme to trap us here and kill us like cattle!" A tall man with a bushy beard yelled from the back. A few others voiced the same concern. It was intimidating to feel their hateful gazes directly on me.

"It isn't. It won't trap you in here. You may pass it anytime you like but anything with bad intention will not make it through." I explained. The man scoffed and whispered something to the boy with ginger hair beside him and with a look of reluctance on his face he made his way to the dome. I kept my face calm but the turmoil in my heart was making me pray to anyone that the kid won't die because of my dome.

The boy took slow steps through the dome and exhaled with relief when he made it through. "I'm okay!" He yelled out and cheers erupted from the crowd. I let go of the breath I was holding and turned to see the man glaring at me before walking away with a few other people who were giving me the same looks. I could help but feel disappointed at them for not seeing how sincere I was to protect them.

Mirabelle came to me and roughly hugged me making me stumble slightly. "That was amazing y/n! I'm so proud of you!" She squealed happily. The other Madrigals also came to congratulate me and Julietta wiped off the blood I didn't realize trailed down from my eyes and nose. I was flustered to receive so many compliments.

I felt happy but when I saw Camilo giving Cynthia, the librarian's daughter, a kiss on the cheek, my inside felt sour and I wanted to throw up. I quickly excused myself and ran to my room.

The anger and sadness boiled in me towards that jerk Madrigal. Tears threatened to fall but I held them in. I turned my heavy emotions into motivation and threw myself into studying magic. Since it's pointless to wallow over my life, might as well use the time to be stronger.

What's important is not me but Encanto.
