"You ready," I walked back in my room.

Sochitta was sitting on the edge of my bed, looking down at her hands. I sat next to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

"You're gonna get through this."

"How do you know?"

"A lil' sum' I like to call talking to God," I smiled at her. She sent me a small smile, but shook her head.

"I don't do all that."

"You should try. It'll make you feel a lot better. That's what I do when I start feeling like you feel right now."

"I just don't see how it could possibly work," she shook her head. "But let's go before hours are over."

Sochitta's mom has been in the hospital for about 4 weeks now. Her wounds are healing very nicely and she's stable with her health physically. They're keeping her there for suicidal watch. Sochitta and I have been going down to the hospital after school just to check on her.

"Is Chris coming," she asked quietly beside me.

"Yeah, I'm about to go pick him up now," I pulled out the driveway and So leaned her head against the window.

Ever since her grandmother got admitted into the hospital she's been down in the dumps, but now that her mom's in there too it's like a whole different thing. I feel so bad for her. Michael can barely get her to smile and that's usually all she does when they're around each other.

He's been doing kind of bad too. He can't get his girlfriend to smile and he hates that she's feeling like this and he can't do anything about it.

"Hey babe," Chris spoke loudly, getting in the backseat.

"Hey Chris," I shook my head at his loudness. Just unnecessary.

"Hey Sochitta. How you feelin'?"

"I'm alright," she shrugged. "I just want all this to be over."

"Me too man. I can't stand seeing mama in the hospital," he sat back and shook his head. "Shit's crazy."

"And it's just like why didn't she come talk to me about how she was feeling, I really hate that she didn't. We wouldn't even be in this situation if she would've just come to me. How could she go as low as almost killing herself and leaving me here? That's just selfish! She was willing to leave me he-"

"Sochitta, don't say that," Chris mumbled from the back. "You don't know what was going through her mind when she did that shit. You sayin' that was real selfish. Inconsiderate as fuck."

She started to say something back, but rested her head against the window instead. I looked in my rear view mirror at Chris and attitude was all over his face as he sat there on his phone. He had his jaws clenched.

We got to the hospital and Sochitta took her time getting out of the car as Chris and I waited for her. He let out a loud breath and sucked his teeth. I nudged his arm. He rolled his eyes and let out another breath in response.

The last thing we need is for So to start feeling like she's causing us problems. I really don't want her to feel like that. Chris sucked his teeth again and I nudged him harder.

"Stop," he yanked his arm away from me.

"No, you stop."

We walked into the building and Chris was staring holes in the back of So's head. I pulled him back and he let out another breath.
