Tejasswi looked at him with weary eyes as he fell to the ground. She clamped a hand over her mouth hearing him blabber about her best friend. She couldn't help the scorching feeling gnawing her insides. She looked at Karan who had then buried his face in his hands.
She lowered her height, beside him placing a quivering arm over her shoulder. She rubbed it gently garnering his attention as he lifted his eyes. She had only seen them grow red and wild in anger but never when he cries. Cut it, she has never seen him cry openly so much. Now that he was doing it she felt like walking on a carpet of thorns bleeding her feet, reminding her how she was only a piece of unwanted baggage in his life, that he could pick and chuck out anytime.
But he took her by surprise, wrapping an arm around her waist. She almost felt herself wobbling as her knees went weak. His hands firmly pressed on her waist and his face into her stomach. Her dress acted like a second skin as he breathed into it.
He was reeking of alcohol much to her dismay. She knew if he was sober he would never do this. She felt a tug as she fell to the floor with a thud. Her knees bruised as it hit the hard flooring. She put her hands on her either sides keeping her balance.
He looked at her with hooded eyes and forehead with creases running criss-cross all over. They were thousand of reasons which told her not stay there any longer but his eyes begged her to stay, hold him.
"I knew you would come back," Karan whispered. The stench of alcohol made her gag internally but she choked it right in her throat as she felt new and renewed.
"It took you 10 years. But it's okay, you made it back to me," he raised a hand to tug a tendril falling before her eyes obstructing his vision. His tender touch exploded every cell over her skin.
"You and our daughter can never live without you," Karan leaned eyeing her lips. Tejasswi rolled her lips in brushing her tongue over its parched outer followed by her teeth gnashing it. His finger tugged it away from the torture. Tejasswi couldn't help the emotion empowering her sanity. She felt like a iron turning getting attracted to a magnet. She was so little when he towers over her casting his shadow upon her. She leaned in not caring about the alcohol. It was her time to cherish because she knew when he'd wake up the next day he'd not remember her or any of these moments, which was good for her and his relationship.
She felt his finger's pad around her lips, slowly caressing it as if he was a forensic fingerprint analyst prodding for something. His fingers finally rested on the edge of her lips and it made her stomach twist and twirl. She felt her heart flutter and her breathe go rough. The touch made the hair on her arms stand. She felt electrified with his very little actions. He stared into her eyes.
"You are back, Sitaara," he croaked, making her mind go haywire. Her head spun with a sharp pain. She could no more feel her heart. She could no more feel her breath. She could no more feel anything as he arms went limp falling to her sides. Tears rimmed her eyes.
"Not Sitaara, I'm Tejasswi," she said, slugging the words your wife down her throat. She knew they didn't share what normal couples did but it hurt her so much even after coming in terms with the harsh truth.
The very next second she was shoved away as if her touch burnt him. She felt hurt. She felt disgusted of herself. She felt burdened. She felt unwanted. She felt betrayed. She felt unloved.
She looked upon blankly not able to decide what to do. How was she supposed to help him when she couldn't help herself? How was she supposed to heal him, when she was scared herself? How was she going to free him from the shackles of the past when she has tied hers to her neck?

as they called it. It did not bring them on cross-roads, cross-stitch or crossfires. It made them entwine in cross-wires.
