Karan walked out of the room in search of Tejasswi and Syra. Looking to his right, he saw the clock strike, twenty minutes past eleven. He sighed realizing Syra would be asleep. This was not their normal. He has always been the last person Syra sees before going to bed. A month ago, this had him extremely frustrated and annoyed. But with Tejasswi gradually fitting into their life, he was getting accustomed to it. But she had a long way to go.

Over the month a lot has changed. From the smallest thing, like the colour of their dining table cloth to stacking the shoe rack with her not-so-small heel collection. Too sad she was still short in front of Karan's huge self. A lot had changed. Much to his surprise and a little dismay, the changes were oddly pleasant. Nothing was normal, in lieu of a new normal.

He walked to Syra's room and found the lights off. He twisted the knob, taking a peak in. It was dark. She didn't like it dark. She never did. Hissing in exhaustion he stepped forth to switch the night lamp on.

Just before he could reach the switch, a suave hand had crossed before him, right across his torso, over his other hand. The fingers swiftly and firmly wrapped around his wrist, holding his hands in midair.

His head swept to the side, eyes following the length of the slender arm till the owner of it. He saw Tejasswi's silhouette in the darkness of the room. Not very clear, but enough for him to figure out that it was her.

He blinked as he waited for her to take her hand away. Tejasswi's eyebrows cocked in question until she found Karan looking at her hold over his wrist. She winced internally, stepping back. Karan felt his touch receptor turn cold as she uncoiled her fingers. She balled her palm and hid it behind her back, working hard on the saliva that was choking her. He looked down to his feet, giving them some time to flush the awkwardness away.

"Syra is learning to sleep with her lights off," Tejasswi whispered. The warm air from her words made him look over.

"She is scared of the darkness," Karan stepped in, closing the distance between them. Tejasswi rolled her eyes.

"Pshtt," she sighed, coming closer," that is why she is learning to face it. You can't keep her away from it all the time."

Keeping their voices to the minimum and hovering over each other. they were just trying not to wake Syra up. It had nothing to do with the comforting warmth they were giving to each other on a chilly drowsy night.

Karan snorted, internally. As much as he liked her playing the mother role duly, he hated when she crossed him over his parenting.

"Every-" Karan recoiled just as Tejasswi put her finger on her own lips gesturing him to shut up. Karan looked over her shoulder and saw Syra twist and cuddle against her pink minnie mouse pillow.
