Off To The Races Part I

Dearest Reader,

It has been said that competition is an opportunity for us to rise and stand ready before our greatest of challenges. Well if what this author hears this morning is true, than a great challenge concerning this season's diamond has been set forth, indeed.

Any suitor wishing to gain an audience with Miss. Edwina Sharma must first tame the rather prickly spinster of a beast otherwise known as her sister.

"What a rather interesting turn of events." Ester said, reading Lady Whistledown to her two children who were currently munching on some cut up grapes.

"It seems that with the Bridgerton family no longer the limelight of attention, it seems the Sharma's are. That works rather well for me children as I do not think I could handle my name in another gossip column." When Edmund screamed and wailed for joy and pointed at the doorway, Ester turned and saw Edmund's favorite person walking rather hastily past the nursery, Anthony.

With her mouth agape she turned to look at Jacob, who seemed to not hear the wailing screams of his brother and laughed.

"It seems Daddy has other more important places to be right now.....I wonder where he is going so hastily?"

Of course the only competition that compels my attention is the game of courtship. So best of luck to this year's players. Do try not to stumble on the starting line.

Ester found herself in the drawing room eagerly stitching her lace while Edmund and Jacob took their first nap of the day. Eloise had Penelope over and they were eagerly discussing Lady Whistledown's last few articles.

Ester watched as Eloise looked uncomfortable, for her suspicions of Penelope being Lady Whistledown were obviously weighing heavily on Eloise. Which was rather improper timing for this being her first season out in society.

Violet was across the room from Ester, stitching what she believed was Daphne's little lad a new pair of slippers.

"...perhaps she's interested in what she has to say about the season's available gentlemen too." Eloise turned to her mother in utter disgust at the idea of such a topic.

"I cannot think of any cleverer way to say this, but no." Ester gave a soft chuckle at Eloise's obvious disdain for societal norms and Violet's clear annoyance of her daughters opinion.

"If it's worth anything I think she's doing better than last year." Ester said to Violet, after Eloise and Penelope continued back to talking in hushed tones. Violet let out a puff of air and continued her stitching.

"I just hope a true gentlemen will love her for her brash opinions and not snuff the light out of her." Ester looked to Eloise and true to Violet's words, was worried for her. Many a man wouldn't tolerate an opinionated woman. Many a man would force their women into obedience and little words.

Ester in some ways was lucky Anthony was himself surrounded by opinionated sisters or else she would be in severe trouble. Penelope and Eloise after a moment or two began to shout loudly the name 'Colin' and true to their words, in walked Colin Bridgerton, the lone traveler.

"Glad to see things have not changed." he stated, proudly filling the room with his arrival.

"Brother!"
