Chapter 33 - A Soldier's Will

Levi approached the campfire and sat down on a crate across from Zeke, who was still holding his book up to his face.

"Enjoying that book, fleabag?" Levi says mockingly.

"As much as i can... I've read it 7 times already." Zeke replies, not looking up from his page.

"Tch. you can cut the crap. It's obvious that you've been eavesdropping this entire time, you haven't even turned your page."

"Can you blame me? It was the only book I was given since we've been here. Is there any wine left at least? I'd like some form of entertainment while I wait to see my brother."

"Of course not. It's been a whole month, and we aren't due for another supply restock for at least a week."

"Damn... that's a shame. You're really torturing me over here... but, at least your men got to enjoy it while it lasted. Not sure why your wife didn't though, she looks like the type of woman to enjoy a fine wine. But, I guess that's to be expected..." Zeke shrugs.

"And just what the hell do you mean by that?" Levi snaps.

"Hm? Oh, I had just assumed you knew. Afterall, there are no walls in a forest. And you both can be... quite loud. Not to mention her scent." Zeke says awkwardly.

"One more word about my wife and I'll kill you where you stand." Levi says, walking towards a group of soldiers.

'Tch, that damn shit-for-brains. Who the hell does he think he is... talking about Y/n's scent... the fuck is that even supposed to mean? And how the hell would he know if she drank the wine or not. There wasn't a reason she couldn't...' Levi thinks as he stops walking for a moment. He turns around and sees Zeke's book left open on the crate he sat on, and Zeke running in the opposite direction of him.

Before anyone, including Levi, could react to his escape attempt, Zeke lets out a loud shriek, making the soldiers in the trees fall from their posts, and emit a yellow glow.

"What the fuck..." Levi mutters. He watches in horror as his comrades start to become titans before his very eyes.

"Farewell, Captain! Surely you couldn't butcher your own soldiers? They're innocent... just a bit bigger is all!!" Zeke taunts as he continues running.

Levi shoots into the trees before a titan swipes to grab him, the rest of them reaching for him up in the trees.

'Damn it... Zeke's spinal fluid was in the wine... shit! When did he have the time to spike it!? It must've been spiked from the beginning... and why it was strictly for those in the military police... shit, shit, shit!!!'

The titans start to climb after Levi, swiping and lunging at him to devour him. He maneuvers his way to the center, making him completely surrounded by the monsters he called his comrades. His eyes darken as he realizes what must be done... and he could only be thankful that you were nowhere near this... he slaughters them all, slicing their napes with precision and speed, the trees in his favor to aid in his victory. Once they were all finished off, he takes off after Zeke, who was accompanied by 3 more titans, one of them carrying him. Levi slices the nape of one of the titans, Zeke's expression now panicked.

Zeke orders the other titan to kill him, but Levi easily takes it down, killing it in its path. Zeke transforms into the beast titan, tearing the last titan apart and throwing its flesh towards the trees at Levi.

"Don't tell me you actually killed your comrades?! How heartbreaking, Levi!" Zeke says, crushing titan flesh in his hands.

Levi cuts the branches of the surrounding trees, obstructing Zeke's vision to counterattack. "If you thought I wouldn't slaughter my fellow soldiers once you turned them... then you have no idea how many of my friends I've had to kill." Levi retorts as he aims his thunder spears at Zeke's nape. They explode, making Zeke fly out and land on the ground, his torso blown off along with most of his face.

"Tch, you're even more ugly than before, shitbag. Don't worry though, I won't kill you just yet..." Levi says, dragging Zeke's battered body by his hair. Levi retrieves a horse and wagon, placing Zeke on the back of it and stabbing a thunderspear into his body and tying his arms behind his back. He pulls on the horses' reins and heads back towards the walls, his face numb and emotionless.

Hours later, Zeke regains consciousness and sees the thunderspear lodged in his body connected to a wire that was tied to his neck, rendering him completely immobile.

"I wouldn't move too much, otherwise you'll end up blown in half." Levi says as he stares down at him, hatred in his eyes. "You used my men as pawns... you fucking bastard." he continues, drawing his sword and slicing at Zeke's feet and legs. Zeke screams in agony as he continues to cut away.

"Shut your filthy fucking mouth... you gave me no choice. So I won't give you the chance to transform, fleabag!" Levi shouts as the wagon begins to soak with blood. He stops and pants for breath, putting his sword away.

Levi turns his back and continues riding in silence, the sky becoming cloudy as small droplets of rain start to fall. Levi uses this time to reminisce about your time together, but more specifically right before you had left to report to Commander Pyxis. You did act out of the ordinary this last month... you went from not being able to stomach any food to eating regular meals everyday. You were oddly irritable, but also easy to bring joy.

"I can't put my finger on it... but something that bastard said before he ran off didn't sit right with me... 'I guess that's to be expected'... then he mentioned how he heard us those few times. What would any of that have to do with how she smelled? She always kept proper hygiene... and I never noticed any other change... Tch. How annoying."

Levi breaks out of his thoughts as he hears Zeke mumbling to himself, his legs nearly regenerated. He stops the wagon as the rain pours harder.

"I'm trying to save you all..." Zeke says weakly.

"Is that what you think you're doing? By taking the lives of my comrades?" Levi asks.

"I saved them... and I saved the children they would've born. By dying, they do not have to suffer in this world anymore... it's a shame your wife and child could not share the same fate..."

"What the fuck did you just say? I couldn't hear you over the sound of me slicing your limbs off..." Levi snarls as he draws his sword.

"MR. KSAVERS!! I HOPE YOU'RE WATCHING!!!"
