Chapter 3

The Vulture landed and the agents spread out. You and Yoru go left and Cypher joins you to cover the area in-between you and Killjoy's tech. Raze and Killjoy go right and lock down B site. You grab the vandal off your back and walk to your position. "Lark, in position." you report through your earpiece. You hear, "Raze in," "Killjoy's set up," and"Cypher's watching,". "Yoru? Come in," you say. His deep voice with a thick Japanese accent fills your head as he responds with, "Yoru, behind them".

You suddenly feel the gut feeling hit you. They're here. "They're going A site. Raze, get your ass to middle since they could try to flank us," you whisper. Yoru says, "At least three here. Two of them might be going B site with the spike." You think for a second and tell Killjoy to stay put. "If they decide to push B with the spike, they'll have a hell of a time. Cypher, keep your eyes peeled. You see anything, tell us," you tell your teammates.

The feeling of danger fills your mind and instinct wants to take over. But instinct would mean running away and leaving the team behind, so you refuse to follow it. Instead, you cast out your mind reading and hear voices.

"Is Chamber holding our backs?" "Yes, and Killjoy is taking the spike to B." "Good. Create a diversion on A to make them rotate." 

You see a grenade flying towards your face and you run to a large generator. You roll behind it a second before the grenade goes off. Ah shit. The gut feeling almost vanishes as you distance yourself from the enemy. "Killjoy, stay on B. Cypher, join her. Mirror Killjoy is trying to plant at B. Yoru, don't get shot by Mirror Chamber. He's watching their backs. The other three are creating a diversion at A." You take a deep breath, and swing around the corner with your gun aimed at their heads.

 Mirror Phoenix is running into the site with a Mirror Skye's tiger. You hit a headshot on the Phoenix with your vandal and destroy the tiger. Fuck his immortality, you think as Phoenix vanishes into thin air. Ducking back behind the generator to reload, you tell your team, "Phoenix and Skye are at A. Yoru, one more should be in front of you."

You hear the sounds of gunfire echo through your earpiece and Raze yell, 'Grenade!' as she throws her grenade. "One's trying to push B," Killjoy reports. The gunfire ceases as the attacker runs from Raze's grenade. 

A voice rings through your head as the gut feeling hits you hard. 'Where are you, little mouse?'  the voice says, but it's just a thought. Not a real voice. Thinking fast, you levitate the thinker based on how far away their thoughts sounded and peek the corner. "Gotcha, bitch" you whisper as you kill Mirror Phoenix.

"Phoenix down," you report to your team, his body falling down as you release him. You hear Yoru mutter something unintelligible in Japanese as he kills Mirror Chamber. The sound of his dimensional travel fills the area as Yoru teleports to A site.

"Cypher, how's it looking?" you ask as duck back behind the generator you reload again. "Mirror KAY/O is going through mid towards you two. Be careful!" he responds. Shit, you think as you peek again and kill Mirror Skye with a single bullet to the head. "Skye's down!"

You decide to use your Foresight and see the next minute. KAY/O comes into A site, sees Yoru, and shoots at him. As much as I hate you, I can't let you die yet you bastard.

KAY/O's heavy footsteps echo through the courtyard. He throws his suppressing knife and Yoru destroys it before he can suppress either one of you.  3... the robot looks in Yoru's direction. 2... he sees the tip of his blue hair. 1... he raises his gun to fire. Go! your instincts are screaming for you to stay hidden, but instead you levitate Yoru and swing at the distracted robot. He sees you in an instant and fires at you.

Four of your bullets punch through his body and kill him, but not before he can land one bullet into your shoulder. (OH BABY A TRIPLE! OH YEAHHHH!!!!!) You cry out in pain from the wound, and drop Yoru. "KAY/O's out. Thanks for the warning Cypher. Killjoy, Raze, how's it looking with the last attacker?" you ask, gasping between words.

"I've got her," Cypher chuckles as he kills Mirror Killjoy. "Alright Cypher, get the Spike. The rest of you, get to the Vulture." you order as you start going back yourself. 

Suddenly the gut feeling appears as Yoru slams you against a wall, his face only inches away from yours. You try to wiggle free, but he's not letting you go. The bullet lodged in your shoulder prevents you from lifting him off you. Holy shit. Why the fuck is he so angry? you think as you read his mind. A blush crawls its way up your cheeks. "Don't. Ever. Do. That. Again." he says, getting closer to your face with each word. Your face gets redder with each and every word and thought out of his head, your breath getting shallower. "Understand?" he whispers in your ear as he leans past your face. 

You stand there, paralyzed, pinned against the wall and you can feel Yoru's breath on your neck. His vanilla cologne drifts into your nose. He bites your ear and repeats, "Understand? Never. Get. Hurt. Again," each word with an increasingly harder accent as he gets frustrated with you not responding. He bites your ear again, harder, and you whimper. You manage to squeak out an,  "A-alright! I w-won't get hurt," your words getting caught on the lump that formed in your throat.

He stops biting your ear and puts his face right in front of yours. You lock eyes with him and he holds you against the wall for what feels like forever, staring into each other's eyes and breathing in each other's smell. You notice your shoulder isn't bleeding, but then realize it's because Yoru's hand is pressing you to the wall right over the bullet hole.

"Yoru, Lark, where are you? We have the spike and everyone's waiting for you two!" Thank Killjoy. My savior. Yoru stares at you for a second longer, then lets you go as he walks to the Vulture. You follow him, the blush not leaving your cheeks. 

With everyone on the Vulture and the spike in the back, the aircraft lifts off and heads back to base. 

"Good work, everyone," you tell the team. "You did great for your first mission, Lark!" Raze praises you. Yoru is staring at you again and awkwardly nods his agreement, which makes you blush. Again. For the fifth time. Just TODAY. 'How is Lark making Yoru smile and have actual emotions for once? He's always been broody and so self-absorbed. And what's with Lark? She's always blushing when he's around.' Killjoy thinks that I make Yoru smile?  you think, then realize she's right. I guess he does smile at me...

The trip back to HQ was spent analyzing Yoru's thoughts when he yelled at you and ignoring the pain from the bullet hole in your shoulder. Oh god. Just thinking about him makes me blush. Shit. You glance to his face, see him staring, blush, see him realize that you see him staring, and see him also blush. 

'Shit. I'm supposed to be mad at her, not thinking about the way her face turned red when I yelled at her!' THE FUCK? HE THINKS ABOUT MY FACE????? You glare at him, and his eyes dart from your face to the shoulder where you got shot, and back to your face, which is beet red by this point. He grins at you and continues staring into your green eyes. You try to avert your gaze, but his eyes hold yours captive. Raze and Killjoy practically share brain cells at this point, with both thinking that you like Yoru and that Yoru likes you. Thoughts fly through your head, but they're mostly Yoru's.

The only thing stopping you from grabbing Yoru with your powers and throwing him off the aircraft is the fact that you got shot in your left shoulder, preventing you from raising your hand. Otherwise, you'd be dead right now, you bastard.
