~Chapter 3~

The phone rang.

RIINNGGGG!!!

"Hello hun?" Angel's dad answered. He was driving, and was holding the phone with one hand and clutching the steering wheel with the other.

"Oi. Angel has been waiting for you. Their program is about to end!!" His wife answered on the other end. He could tell she was annoyed.

"What? I'm sorry, the traffic is really heavy."

"Ugh. You keep making promises you can't keep!!" She shouted angrily.

"Ma I don't have time for this!" He dropped the call, tired and annoyed.

He was so tired and angry that he didn't see the truck coming in front of the car. He saw it just when it honked, and he didn't have time to get out of its way.

Then he crashed head on.

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

"Yes, we're fine. We will be okay." Angel's mum was on the phone talking to a relative. She paused to listen.

"Yes. Thanks. Bye." She said then hung up.

She turned to Angel who was looking through her dad's stuff.

"Angel, help me put away your father's stuff." She stated.

Angel nodded and started picking up her dad's belongings. Her mum did the same.

Angel rumaged through her dad's shirts and found the shirt that he was supposed to wear last Christmas presentation.

"Ma! Look! This is the shirt that dad was supposed to wear last Christmas!"

Her mum looked at her and approached her. "He never got to wear it." She stated and got the shirt from Angel.

Angel just looked at her with confusion then returned to what she was doing.

She fixed some more stuff and saw her dad's old Manga comics.

"Ma! Look here! These are dad's old manga comics!" She started flipping through the pages. "Dad was still really like a kid cuz he loved these comics!" She chuckled.

"Why don't you put them inside the box?" Her mum sighed.

Angel pouted sadly, but she did as she was told.

She continued fixing her dad's belongings. When she came across some angel figurines, she instantly remembered the time when her father gave it to them.

"Ma, look! These are the angel figurines that dad gave us before he went to Europe!" She said, smiling at the memory.

"He said, 'When I go, these angels would watch over you.' Then he would sing, 'The moment you wake up, I'll say a little prayer..'" She started singing.

Her mum went over to her and started singing too.

"While combing your hair now, I'll say a little prayer.." She seemed close to tears. "Whatever you do, you can't bring your dad back!" She snapped and walked away.

"Maa.." Angel tried to call her back. But her mum didn't even look back.

She slumped down on the floor. Memories of her and her dad's bonding times flooded her.

--Angel's POV--

There was a time when he would show magic tricks to me.

"...Then blow on it, Angel!" He would say to make the coin appear in his hand. I did, and he opened his hand.

There was the coin! I clapped happily. I really thought it was magic. I was just 7 years old then.

I remembered the time when we would go and buy ice cream. He said, "Angel, you wanna taste the flavor of this one?"

I nodded enthusiastically. He tried to hide a smirk as he extended his ice cream towards me. I was gonna lick the ice cream when --

Suddenly, half of the ice cream was in my mouth. I didn't gag though. I bit it off and ate it. I laughed. Dad looked dumbstruck.

"Haha!! Got you dad!" I said when I finally ate the whole thing.

"Well yeah, you did." He chuckled. "I was gonna make the ice cream smear across your face!"

Then I got an idea. "What about you, dad? You want to taste the flavor of my ice cream?" I asked.

"Okay! I really like chocolate too. I dunno why I bought vanilla." He said.

I extended my ice cream to him and did what he was planning on me. I caught him by surprise and my ice cream smeared around his lips.

"HAA! Success!!" I shouted. "Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh oh oh yeah!!"

He laughed and stuck a finger in his ice cream before tracing it across my cheek quickly.

"Payback!" He laughed.

We just had fun having an ice cream fight.

There was this other time when we would play frisbee. He would throw the disk, then I would catch. Sometimes I would trip and get hurt. He would rush to my side and comfort me. Then we would happily play again.

I snapped out of my thoughts.

"I just really wonder why mum is acting like that," I muttered to myself. "It's as if she didn't love him."

I sighed and stood up. "I can't stay like this. I need to do something."
