[Y/n]
Although it takes some time to learn how to walk in a new body, I must say I'm quite proud of how quickly I adapted to it. I arrived at Fracture after a few hours of flight, as it is located in an isolated area, where no one could see what Kingdom actually hid from them. The whole facility is very complicated, there are some vehicles driving around, production belts are in non-stop motion, and scientists look like ants - everywhere. I hear beeping, screeching and tapping sounds from all around me.
It’s funny how there are so many secrets and I cannot expose them all myself. I need to leave both Chambers to handle all the information I'll ever get.
I check in with my ID card and mentally remind myself of who I am and what I will be doing for today. Thankfully, Vincent was thoughtful enough to give me some sort of a manager rather than a scientist, so I just have to supervise everyone around me. This can't be that hard, right?
From what I can recall from the mission briefing, I assume I have to go watch the sector for Omega Earth. What do all of these names even mean? Is there an Alpha sector as well...?
I snort, amused, and brush off the thought. Now, I have to focus on overhearing everything I can from scientists and maybe scouting for some blueprints would be a great help. As a manager I do have access to those, don't I? I can't seem suspicious, because after all, I might easily give myself away. One reckless move and..."Mr. Arte?" A young woman's voice calls out to me. Did I detect a bit of a German accent? From what I know...
I quickly scan the area in search of any Germans that work here. I need to be ready to deduce their connection and whether they work together."Mr. Arte." She repeats herself, and I finally turn around. When I finally face her I immediately recognise her face from photos that I saw.
"Klara!" I raise my hands. They are quite close, but they still keep that colleague-to-colleague relationship. I need to remember that the scientist I'm controlling the body of one who has a bubbly personality and approaches everything with enthusiasm. Oh, now that I think about it, I wonder what Chamber plans to do with him after I’ve completed my mission… He won't send him back to Fracture for work, that's for sure, but what is the worst he could do to him?
Well, kill him.
Honestly, I feel bad for him now, it's probably the fate he doesn't deserve. Actually, I can always search through his files in order to find something to call his death "fair"... I have to silence my own conscience, why am I thinking about this now, though? I should focus, I have work to do.
"Hello. You've been absent for a week, sir. Is everything alright now?" She asks in a concerned voice, but I only shrug it off.
"I've never been better. My nose got a little stuck, and you know, I became hotter, but only for a week." I smile shortly, but then I feel disgusted inside. I have to admit, though, I was smooth with this one. It seems like I said something correctly, ‘cause Killjoy smiles with understanding and a sparkle of amusement in her eyes. Whew, at least now I know how he talks.
"Glad to hear that. Your workers await you in the lab."
The room I enter soon after is huge, full of people and tables with weird substances on them. I suppose I shouldn't bother too much about those, as I'm here only to supervise those poor scientists. I'll probably get more money working with the Chambers than these scientists would from Kingdom in a week.
My desk is placed in the far corner, and it seems pretty lonely. I’d assume it's to show the 'hierarchy' around here and my “superiority”. People all keep their distance from it, and only I am allowed to approach it and sit down on the most comfortable chair of all. Reminds me of my school years, when teachers were allowed to sit on big, soft chairs, and we were seated on some old wooden stools. I hope it has changed by now, but I haven't visited any educational facilities in ten years.
Almost immediately I'm flooded with files, papers, questions, and propositions. I congratulate someone, give some advice to another, and even yelled at one of those who came to me. I just couldn't bear his audacity to point everything out and...
I think I'm getting too into this role. The Chambers would probably enjoy the story time I'll be giving when I get back.
[Vincent]
My copy has recently been getting on my nerves.
Not that I complain much, but he seems more worried about [y/n]’s well-being and safety than about the fact they might fail the whole mission. If they die, we always could get there ourselves and grab those blueprints, right? I don't see a huge problem, they're just a tool.
I feel so dumb repeating these words over and over. I need to admit, they're useful for the cause...Time passes by mercilessly, the clock's ticking reminding us about every second passing. We, my copy and I, are both just sitting in our rented apartment, awaiting [y/n]'s return. It's nearly time for them to come back. After two or three hours pass, we hear a doorbell ring and I immediately get to the door, opening it wide. The scientist is standing in front of us, smiling, and for a second I get startled.
I completely forgot, it's [y/n].
Then, a relieved smile creeps onto my lips. Good, good, they're back. I quickly lead them to the cells so that they can leave this man's body. As soon as I secure the bars, the scientist seems terrified and all sweaty - ah, he finally regained his consciousness. Too bad.
Back at the apartment, [y/n] is already served by my copy and they smile at me."Hey. I've got a lot to talk about." Their smile grows bigger, turning into a grin. Well, it seems like they're satisfied - so [y/n]'s probably got some good news to tell.
Our trio sits down and while sipping our warm drinks, both Vincent and I listen to what they have to say. The way they talk about it seems so… passionate, for some reason, although they did just take control over someone and play along the whole day. Well, I'm glad one of my... 'employees' is enjoying what they're doing.
[Y/n] tells us about confrontation with Killjoy, the gossip about the Valorant agency and more information on more of the other scientists. Turns out, the scientist we kidnapped has a family. At least that's what they assumed from one of the questions from their workers. Dang, he hid his relatives quite well, then.
"I'll head to sleep now, I'm exhausted. Thanks for the drink. See you tomorrow, lads." [Y/n] gets up and with a smile as they put their mug into the sink and head into their bedroom. My copy says 'goodnight', but I reply a bit too late. Shame. It's their problem they didn't hear it.
