Military camp
Jisoo's POV
The training arena buzzed with tension, the air heavy with the aftermath of Gunju's fury.
His dominance in the sparring matches was unparalleled, and every strike he delivered seemed to ripple with the rage that consumed him.
"Thud!" The sound of another opponent hitting the ground echoed through the space.
Gunju stood tall, his chest heaving, eyes like molten fire. "Anyone else?" he growled, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade.
His gaze swept over the gathered soldiers, challenging them, daring them. When his eyes locked onto mine, I froze, quickly averting my gaze. My heart raced, and I instinctively stepped behind one of the larger soldiers, hoping to disappear from view.
I'd been on edge since the nightmare, and being near Gunju only amplified my unease. His presence was suffocating, his every move a reminder of the danger I was in.
Vice General Jimin stepped forward, trying to intervene. "Taehyung," he said calmly, using Gunju's real name, "you're exhausted. You need to rest."
But Gunju shook him off, his expression wild. "I'm not tired!" he snapped, his voice raw with frustration. "Let's keep going!"
His sharp gaze landed on me again. My stomach churned as he pointed in my direction.
"You," he said, his tone laced with challenge. "Come here."
I felt every pair of eyes in the arena shift toward me. My breath hitched as I stepped out from behind the soldier, trying to steady my trembling hands
"Me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes, you," he repeated, a smirk curling on his lips. Then, in a voice only I could hear, he added, "Beautiful lady."
My heart skipped a beat at his words. I knew he was playing with me, testing me, but the way he said it sent a confusing warmth through me.
Vice General Jimin frowned, clearly disapproving of Gunju's antics. "Taehyung, this isn't necessary," he tried to reason, but Gunju ignored him, stepping closer to the sparring ring.
The soldiers formed a circle, their curiosity palpable. Whispers spread like wildfire, fueling rumors about Gunju's peculiar attention toward me.
I clenched my fists, stepping into the ring.
Gunju loosened his bun, letting his long hair cascade over his shoulders, his smirk never fading.
"Let's begin, Jian," he said, his tone both mocking and inviting.
The match started, and I launched into action, aiming a kick at his head. He dodged effortlessly, his hair bouncing as he moved. I tried again, spinning to deliver a kick to his torso, but he sidestepped with infuriating ease.
He wasn't fighting back. He was toying with me.
"Jian," he said, his voice low and teasing. "Show me you're not as fragile as you look."
The taunt lit a fire in me. Ignoring the heat rising to my face, I focused and attempted another attack. But my frustration got the better of me, and I made a wrong move, earning a penalty.
Shit," I muttered under my breath, cursing my mistake.
Gunju leaned in slightly, his voice just for me. "You're doing this on purpose," I accused.
