Sehun’s heart raced as he carefully lifted Jisoo into his arms, his breath shaky from the unexpected turn of events. He had drugged her—he had no choice. He had to act now before she became aware of what was truly happening. It wasn’t that he wanted to hurt her. Far from it. But he had been cornered for too long, and the only way to keep her close, to finally make her see him as more than just a friend, was by keeping her within his grasp.
Her soft breathing in his arms made his chest tighten. Sehun had always admired Jisoo, loved her even in his quiet way. But it had always been clear to him that her heart was set on Taehyung. She had never wavered in her devotion to her childhood sweetheart, and that bitter reality had gnawed at him for months. He didn’t know if he could ever make her feel the same way, but he couldn’t let her slip away either. Not now.
As Sehun carried Jisoo to the waiting horse outside the inn, he felt a pang of guilt. He knew he was betraying her trust, but he was desperate. He couldn’t let her go—he wouldn’t let her go. Not when she was finally so close, not when everything seemed like it could finally work out for them.
“Forgive me, Sooyaa,” he whispered softly, his words carried away by the evening wind.
He placed her gently on the horse, adjusting her position so she wouldn’t slip. Mounting the horse behind her, Sehun urged it forward, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. The streets of the capital were quiet this time of night, and the darkened alleys provided the perfect cover for his actions. His heart beat in his chest, louder than the hoofbeats beneath them, as he rode away from the inn.
Sehun’s thoughts swirled as he glanced at Jisoo, her face peaceful in unconsciousness. This wasn’t the path he had wanted to take. But now that he was on it, there was no turning back. He couldn’t risk losing her, not when they were so close to something real.
He had to make her see that he could be the one for her.
As the horse moved through the quiet streets, Sehun’s mind shifted between memories of the past and the reality of the present. His thoughts flickered to the way Jisoo had always treated him—kind, thoughtful, but never more than a friend.
But now, with Taehyung out of the picture for the moment, Sehun couldn’t help but think that this might be his only chance. Jisoo was here, with him, vulnerable, and in need of help. He would keep her safe, he would care for her, and he would show her that he could be everything she needed.
"Just give me a chance," Sehun muttered, tightening his grip around her waist as they made their way through the dark streets. "Just one chance to show you that I’m the one who truly cares."
The journey felt endless, but Sehun didn’t dare stop until they reached the secluded estate where he had been staying. It was a small, quiet house on the edge of the city, away from the prying eyes of the palace and the capital’s busy streets. No one would come looking for her here, at least not immediately.
As Sehun dismounted and carefully lifted Jisoo from the horse, he whispered her name softly, hoping for some sign that she might wake up. But she remained unconscious, her breathing slow and steady. He took her inside, settling her on a soft bed, making sure she was comfortable.
Standing over her, Sehun’s gaze lingered on her peaceful face, the guilt in his chest growing heavier by the moment. "I’m sorry, Sooyaa," he whispered again. "I never wanted to hurt you. But I’ll make you understand. You’ll see that I’m the one who will always be here for you."
He couldn’t help but feel a twisted sense of satisfaction. He had Jisoo now, and no one—least of all Taehyung—could take her away from him.
But deep down, a small voice whispered in his mind, a voice that reminded him that this was wrong. No matter how much he cared for her, he was going about it all the wrong way.
