Jisoo's eyes fluttered open, her head heavy, a dull ache pulsating in her temples. For a moment, she couldn’t remember where she was or how she had ended up here. Her gaze wandered across the unfamiliar room, its calm, serene atmosphere completely at odds with the chaos in her mind. Everything felt distant and hazy, as though she had been removed from the reality she’d just experienced.
Her breath caught in her chest as the memory returned—Taehyung, the pain, the fight, Sehun's twisted words. The sound of his taunts and the sight of Taehyung’s battered body were still fresh in her mind. She shot up from the bed in a panic, but the dizzying effect of her sudden movement made her head spin, and she fell back against the pillows, her hands clutching her aching skull.
"Unnie, you're awake," Chaeyoung’s soft voice reached her ears, and Jisoo turned her head to see her younger sister standing at the door, her eyes wide with worry. She was holding back tears, and the look on her face made Jisoo’s heart clench with guilt.
"Chaeyoung," Jisoo breathed, her voice weak. "Where's Taehyung? How is he?"
Her words came out in a rush, desperate, filled with anxiety. The confusion in her mind only heightened her fear for Taehyung. Chaeyoung’s face fell at the mention of his name, and she hesitated before walking over to Jisoo’s side.
"He’s still unconscious, unnie," Chaeyoung whispered, her voice barely above a breath. "He was really badly hurt. But the doctors are doing everything they can. He’s alive, unnie… he’s alive."
Jisoo’s heart pounded in her chest. Alive. Alive. The word echoed in her mind, offering both comfort and anxiety. She wanted to believe it, wanted to hope that Taehyung would pull through. But something inside her told her that the road ahead wouldn’t be easy.
Her mind raced, her thoughts a tangled mess of what had happened, of what was still to come. But one thing was clear: she had to see him. She had to be there for him, no matter what.
"Let me see him," Jisoo said, her voice stronger now, though her body still felt weak. "I need to see him."
Chaeyoung opened her mouth to protest, but Jisoo was already standing, her legs trembling beneath her, her heart set on one goal: Taehyung. The fear that had gripped her before was now replaced with a fierce determination. She couldn't lose him, not now, not after everything they’d been through.
"Unnie, wait!" Chaeyoung called, but Jisoo didn’t stop.
She stumbled toward the door, her steps unsteady, but she refused to slow down. All that mattered was getting to Taehyung. The door swung open as she reached it, and she found herself face-to-face with the hallway leading to Taehyung’s bedchamber.
But before she could take another step, she heard a sharp voice call out to her.
"Wait, Jisoo."
Vice General Jimin stood at the end of the hallway, his face stern as he walked toward her. His eyes were focused, but there was an unspoken concern there that made Jisoo hesitate. She stopped, her body tense, and turned to face him, her hand still gripping the doorframe as though it were the only thing holding her together.
"Jimin, I need to see him," she said, her voice low, but filled with urgency. "Is he awake? Is he going to be okay?"
Jimin’s gaze softened for a moment, but his next words were firm. "He’s not awake yet, but he’s stable. The doctors are working on him now, Jisoo. You can’t see him like this. He needs rest."
Her chest tightened. She could see the truth in his eyes, but her heart rebelled against it. She wanted to go to him, to be by his side. She had to be there for him, no matter what.
