Jisoo’s POV (First Person)
“Unnie… Sooyaa Unnie!”
The sweet voice of Chaeyoung, Minister Park’s daughter, echoed through the mansion, calling for me. My new identity as “Sooyaa” was working better than I anticipated, and here I was, a personal maid in the Park Mansion. My role was clear: serve Chaeyoung, keep my head down, and gather information.
I’d never imagined I would end up here, but after the events that had transpired, this seemed like the best path to finding the answers I needed about my father’s betrayal. And Chaeyoung... she wasn’t at all what I expected. She was bubbly, friendly, and always so full of energy. In many ways, she reminded me of someone I hadn’t seen in month's —Bae Jennie.
I missed her, I realized. Missed her loud, talkative nature, her sassy aura that always lightened the mood. But I couldn’t face Jennie, not after everything. The lies, the manipulation—intentional or not, I knew I deserved her rage. That guilt had been eating at me, but for now, all I could do was bury those feelings. I had a task to focus on.
I entered Chaeyoung’s room with a tray of breakfast, carefully arranged with the delicious dishes I knew she’d love. She had an insatiable appetite, always munching away happily at whatever was placed before her. And judging by the hungry gleam in her eyes, this meal was no exception.
“Wow… don’t tell me this is all for me?” Chaeyoung asked with her mouth full, her gaze fixed on the tray as if she couldn’t believe her luck.
I smiled, nodding in response, unable to suppress a soft chuckle at her excited pout. She looked so innocent, so carefree. I placed the tray down on the table and moved to the wooden closet to pick out a beautiful dress for her. She was already digging into the meal, her food-induced happiness radiating around the room.
“Unnie, I talked with oppa. I asked him if we could join him at the Military Camp,” Chaeyoung muttered between bites, her voice enthusiastic.
At the mention of the military camp, my heart skipped a beat. She had no idea that I was secretly planning to visit the same camp. I had to. I had to get back my belongings—the ones taken from me when I was captured: my master’s mysterious knife, my mother’s jadepin, the token that represented my true identity, and most importantly, the amethyst necklace that Taetae had given me. It was the last gift he had ever given me, and it meant everything.
But getting into the Military Camp wasn’t as easy as walking through the gates. I couldn’t go in as Jian, not as a woman—both would be forbidden. However, if I were to accompany someone, there might be a chance. Chaeyoung’s connection with her brother, Chanyeol, the one who had some authority at the camp, was my key. I had to convince her to take me there, under the guise of just accompanying her brother.
“Did he say anything?” I asked hesitantly, trying not to reveal too much of my plan. “Did he ask why you wanted to go?”
I kept my tone light, pretending I was just curious about the outcome of her conversation. Inside, I felt my heart race. I needed this opportunity. After staying in the forest for days, hidden away in that small hut, I knew I had to take action. The longer I waited, the further away my father’s name would remain from vindication. I couldn’t waste any more time.
Chaeyoung looked up at me, her face lighting up with a mischievous grin. “He said it was fine, but only if we join him for a few days. I’m sure we’ll have lots of fun!”
