Nights and days
Flutter by
Without giving her
A chance
To do so.
It's not as if
She hasn't tried,
Though.
Everyday
She looks at
The lock
Hanging outside,
The complex mechanism
Used to
Imprison her
Against her will
Trying
To make it open
But
The thing
Just doesn't budge.
She wishes she had
Those things
Humans called
Hands
So she could
Fly
Away
To Freedom.
She pecks at
The roof
Hoping
That it would
Someday, sometime
Crack open
And let in
A sliver of light
A sliver of hope
For escape.
She hates the food
They give her
It's bland
Tasteless
As if
It is eating
Just for the sake.
How she wished
She had
Those sweet fruits
Those sour berries
Eating which
Was pure pleasure!
She wished
She was thin
Thin enough
To pass
Through the ugly
Cold iron rods
But
Her skin
Her delicate feathers
Get hurt
Whenever
She tries that.
Surely,
Oh, surely,
There must be
Some way
To escape
The bars of the cage?
