It was as if centuries had passed.
Luz struggles to open her glue-shut eyes, her mind foggy and confused. She was lying on rough and cold stone floors, she can feel a source of warmth- probably a fire- near her, the only thing she could see now was the burning crimson colour of her eyelids.
'Welcome back, good with Luzura' a voice says above her.
'PHILLIP WHITTABANE?' Luz choked out with raspy voice; her throat feels like sand paper. She was so dehydrated her was dizzy as soon as she pronounced the last syllable.
'Good to see you, too' Phillip chuckles coldly
Luz forces her eyelids open, causing a few eyelashes to be teared. Ignoring the pain, Luz began looking around. She was in a cave: it was dimly lit by a torch, she could make out a few diagrams pinned on the wall, and a pile of... something.
She turns back to Phillip, scowling at him, 'WHAT DID YOU DO?'
He didn't look much different from when they met earlier, though the scar on his nose seemed to be bigger. When Luz noticed this, she cheered silently, taking pride for her cool aunt's action.
'I didn't do anything, she requested you, I was simply fulfilling her wishes' Phillip said, smiling mischievously. He turns to a corner of the cave, as if welcoming a guest.
At this, something... or someone, hidden in the darkness of the cave, took a step towards them. They were cloaked in dark purple silk, with little stars punctuating the cloth. Their face was completely hidden from view.
'Leave us alone' the person says.
I know this voice, Luz thinks, it sounds so familiar, but so not at the same time. Strange.
'As you wish, collector.' Phillip says, bowing and exciting the cave.
'You're the collector??' Luz asked, shocked. 'Do you know how to create a portal to the huma-'
The collected puts out a gloved hand, stopping Luz mid-sentence.
'Look Luz, I don't have much time left.' They say, 'I have a lot to explain to you...'
They began fidgeting a little, clutching their cloak.
'Wait- are you that girl who jumped on me back there-' Luz starts, millions of questions forming in her awakening mind.
'Yes, I am. But that's not the point... Please, don't ask questions, listen carefully to my next words'
Luz becomes silent, staring intently at the stranger. She wonders if she could be trusted.
