Hope's POV: Lightning struck the ground a few feet behind me, causing me to wince as I limped through what's left of Mystic Falls. "Come on, Lizzie. Wake up", I pleaded, half dragging the unconscious heretic down the sidewalk as blood soaked through my fingers, collecting onto the hot cement beneath us. Entering the clock-tower, I vamped upstairs to lay Lizzie onto the floor, trying to ignore the amount of blood that was quickly pooling underneath her body. I winced, biting into my wrist before holding it to Lizzie's lips as my bloodied hands shook. "Lizzie", I whispered, tears building behind my eyes. "Lizzie, please, wake up", I begged.
Logically, I knew that she wasn't dead, but after seeing everyone that I love die, I couldn't handle losing anyone else.
Sitting back on my knees, I wiped at my eyes as I stared down at her limp body. "I'm gonna get us out of this, okay", I promised, taking her hand into mine. "But I need you to be strong for me. Can you do that", I asked her quietly.
Taking the bag off my shoulder, I poured the contents out onto the floor before picking up an old grimoire. "Hmm", Lizzie groaned, squeezing her eyes shut tightly. "Hope", she mumbled, opening her eyes as she looked around in confusion.
"I'm here", I answered, watching her closely as her eyes met mine.
"What happened? Did we win", she asked me hopefully, causing my eyes to flicker toward her hair, which was soaked in blood.
Lizzie's blood.
"I'm sorry", I apologized tearfully. "I tried, but he's too strong", I explained, causing her face to fall.
"Hope, what happened? Where is everyone", she asked, pushing herself up on her elbows as she looked around.
"Gone", I told her quietly, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Gone", she asked, her voice shaking. "W-what do you mean they're gone", she panicked, attempting to get to her feet before I lay a hand on her shoulder.
"Be careful. You're still healing", I warned, noticing the way her eyes threatened to roll back into her head at the motion. "I think I know how to fix all this", I whispered, causing her to look back at me in confusion. "My Uncle Kol gave me this grimoire last Christmas. I think I remember seeing a spell in here that could help us", I explained before her eyes focused on the book in my hands.
"Hope, that's black magic", she frowned, her tone displaying uneasiness.
"We don't have a choice, Lizzie. He's destroying everything", I pointed out. "The only way to stop him is to go back and prevent him from ever being released from that sarcophagus", I said, causing her frown to deepen.
"Time travel", she gaped. "You have got to be joking. That's the whole reason we're in this mess", she reminded, refusing to meet my eyes.
"Do you have a better idea", I challenged, causing her to clench her jaw as she moved to sit up hesitantly.
"What do you need me to do", she asked.
"Lizzie, this spell is unpredictable. It could send us to into a parallel universe, another timeline. Hell, it could even scramble our DNA. We could turn out as some freaky Siamese twin for all I know", I told her, causing her to roll her eyes.
"You're being dramatic. There's nothing worse than staying here and doing nothing. Besides, if we do end up over three billion years in the past, I'll tell the dinosaurs to eat you first. Besides, it's not like I have to outrun them. I just have to be faster than you", she shrugged before furrowing her eyebrows. "Wait, what was that last one", she asked in concern.
"It doesn't matter", I waved her off.
"Give me that damn book, Mikaelson", she demanded, snatching the item from my hands.
"Hey", I exclaimed, watching her eyes scan the spell.
"Well, what are you waiting for", she asked. "Prepare the spell before Klaus 2.0 finds us", she urged, causing me to glare at her for the comment before silently getting up to get the spell ready. "Are you sure that this is a good idea", Lizzie asked nervously.
"We'll be fine", I assured, not sure whether I was talking to Lizzie or myself.
"Hope, this spell is dangerous-"
"Don't you think that I know that", I threw back, causing her to fall silent as I finished drawling the runes on the floor. "Give me your hand", I instructed before she held her hand out absentmindedly. Holding her hand over the runes, I bite down, allowing blood to drip onto the chalk-drawn lines as Lizzie yanked her hand away with a hiss.
"What the hell", she glared, clutching her bloody hand to my chest as she watched the bite mark heal. "Did you just bite me", she asked me in annoyance.
"Lizzie, you're a heretic. You'll be fine", I reminded. "Besides, with my blood in your system, it should heal pretty quickly", I pointed out, noticing how pale she looked.
"A little warning would be nice", she huffed, looking down at her hand with a pout.
"Here", I said, offering her my wrist.
"Pass", she said in disgust.
"Lizzie, you need more blood", I pointed out.
"The last time that I drank your blood, I ended up becoming a vampire", she reminded, causing me to swallow thickly as I looked away from her shamefully. "Fine", she sighed, taking my wrist into her hands before sinking her teeth into my arm, causing me to wince slightly. "Hmm", she moaned, causing me to raise my eyebrows as her grip tightened momentarily before she quickly pulled away from me. "Happy", she asked, wiping her mouth.
"Did you just-"
"Not a word", she warned.
Rolling my eyes halfheartedly, I bit into my wrist, watching the blood mix with Lizzie's as the runes lit up, shining a light gold color. "Ready", I questioned, sitting across from her. Nodding hesitantly, she slowly sat up and took my hands before we heard something downstairs shatter, causing my heart to drop.
He's here.
"Whatever happens, don't stop", I warned, beginning the incantation. Looking lover Lizzie's shoulder, I watched Ken's figure walk up the stairs, before tightening my hold on Lizzie's hands subconsciously as a bright light blinded me.
