Ellie

I toss and turn in my bed. I reach for my phone under my pillow and check the time. It's coming to one in the morning and I still haven't been able to sleep an ounce.

Naturally, I am a night person but Nova and Marissa were both too tired to stay up with me tonight.

Frustrated, I get out of my bed and slide into my robe. Slowly, I walk out of our room, I don't intend to wake my roommates but maybe if I can drink a glass of water, I will be able to find some sleep.

I carefully walk down the stairs because it is so dark I can barely see a thing.

I walk past the living room towards the kitchen when the lights suddenly turn on.

I yelp in surprise.

"Hi." I turn as Col greets me.

"You nearly ripped my heart out." I scold, one hand on my chest.

"But I didn't." He smirks.

"What are you doing up so late?" I question as i walk towards the fridge.
I pick out a bottle of water.

"I was about to ask the same thing." He throws back.

I sit on a stool right next to him.

"I can't sleep." I explain.

"Is something bothering you?" He asks, concerned.

"No, nothing. I am just a night person."

"Finally!" He exclaims, throwing his hands up in the air." Nice to meet someone like me.

I laugh at him.

"By the way. I talked to Uncle Ross, the basement will be ready tomorrow." He informs me.

"Thanks." I appreciate."Now we just have to choose a wedding song and practice like professionals even when we clearly don't know what we are doing. How hard can it be?"

He laughs at my sarcasm. "You are funny."

"Since you are here, why don't you tell me about Trent and Maya. He has been keeping the juicy details from me." He curiously requests.

"Hmm, and how will you help me when Trent buries me alive for telling you?" I tease.

"I think I saw a shovel around here. I will just dig you up." He replies and I chuckle at his answer. Smart.

"Ok, my burial. So what do you want to know? Where do I start?"

"From the beginning. How come they have been together for thirteen years? Isn't Trent just nineteen?" He asks.

"Well yes. Maya and Trent have grown up in the same neighborhood. It's just a five minutes' walk from Trent's to Maya's so they have literally know each other all their lives.

"They went to the same kindergarten and on Maya's fifth birthday, Trent asked her to be his girlfriend."

"No way!" Col exclaims.

"Yes, he actually did. Uncle Mark, Aunt Mandie and Maya's parents laughed it off but Trent was serious so on her thirteenth birthday, he asked her again and made it official." I add.

"Amazing." Col compliments." He is so in love with her, I can see it in his eyes when he talks about her."

"Yeah, we all do. I just wish I can one day have what they have." I say.

"If Trent will let me," I add and roll my eyes before sipping on my water.

"Aaa. The protective big brother. But he is in college now so you are as free as a bird."

"I wish. Living in a different state and now being in college. None of that has stopped him." I say.

"Really?"

"Yes. I thought that since I was in a different highschool from him, it would give me some space but I was wrong. You see, he's friends with the basketball team captain at my school so I practically have a whole basketball team watching my every move." I complain.

"That guy will go far and beyond to make sure you don't have contact with boys, won't he?" Col states and shakes his head.

"Well it's better for me. Marissa has it worse."

"Hmmm. I wish I could do that for Nova but the girl is so hot headed, she won't listen to me." Col shakes his head.

"So you don't mind boys hanging out with her?" I ask him.

"Oh no, I didn't say that. It's just that since I can't control her, I control them. Everyone at her school knows that she is off limits. Whether she wants to talk to you or not, if you are a boy, you don't talk to her." He informs.

"And now that I am in college, Blake is in charge." He adds.

I stare at him in disbelief. I do not understand what's with them and being overly protective.

"Brothers are evil." I plainly state and he throws his head back and laughs at that.

I yawn before I speak again." You guys should give us some breathing space."

"Not happening. I told Nova that we can talk about boys when she turns thirty." He says.

I roll my eyes and yawn again.

"Come on, let's get you into bed." He says. If my phone is correct, it is a few minutes past three. We spent so much time talking, I didn't even realize it was this late.

He lays his hand at the small of my back and I let him, somehow it feels right.

He switches off the kitchen lights as we go up the stairs. He walks me to the girls' bedroom.

"Thanks for the company." He appreciates.

"Sure. It was fun." I reply. "Goodnight Col."

"Night." He responds and I walk through the door.

" He responds and I walk through the door
